A few days back I started work on some card building designs. First basic test turned out like so. Followed by a slightly cleaned up set of parts on a simpler model.
This weekend my partner in game design crime and I started working on some more detailed textures. The results, next to the first run.
We're obviously still figuring out what exact style we're trying to get to, but I'm liking where it's headed. The problem honestly is the medium. I want to make something different, and I love classic video game style pixel art. That's actually the focus of our main board game project. But when it comes to 3d, too "classic" is just boring, and too detailed is going to just look like crappy low resolution fantasy. Right now we're trying to strike a balance that'll look unique, thematic, and good on the table. I hope you all enjoy, and if you have any suggestions on what we can do to improve on our goal I'd much appreciate it. Cheers, Mick

So next round of texture tests. Stayed with the small shack design since it's easy to texture and put together, but big enough to see how the textures look when repeated. Shown here are both horizontal and vertical wooden walls, along with large wooden shingles. Then we have the same basic setup but with a mockup for stone corner braces. I'll need to redo the placement so they wrap around the corners more realistically, but I think the colors work. Lighting through the house I'm at stinks, but I wanted to update. Tonight I'll have access to better lighting. Should have a new stucco texture mockup as well as peaked roof builds. Finally, lineup of different phases of testing.
