Ugh! Been too long! Traveller game didn't happen, only two players showed so we watched a movie. My primary consumer moved and my hours changed, and now they're about to change again; one of his old housemates (not the one he moved to get away from) is moving in on Friday, and as of Monday I'll be working 9-5 for the first time in my life. And the big news: Last night I uploaded my first product to DrivethruRPG.com under my own company name, El Cheapo Products! Our moto: "Talk about your El Cheapo!" Now after uploading so many products, I find myself annoyed at having to wait for this one to get into the store. It's a simple set of Desert Folk, along with a small square building, an 8x10 desert card with a 1 inch grid, and the same desert and grid at 24x30 inches. Working on a couple of other generic sets, some Contemporary folks, and a set of guard dogs in various poses (and 3 breeds). More when it finally drops. I'm not finding it on DriveThruRPG, just your Traveller stuff comes up when I searh "El Cheapo" I am very interested in your new products!

Sooo... Today caught me off guard. Getting adjusted to the earlier schedule at work, my supervisor got called to the office for a meeting and was nervous; I told her not to worry because she's one of the good ones and they know that. She said that made her feel better. Half an hour later the house gets a call and it's the owner of the company. "What just happened is she quit, do you want her job?" It's not the first time they've offered me the position, but it's the first time I didn't outright say no thank you.. She told me to come to the office to talk about it and when I go there they acted like it was a foregone conclusion that I would accept. I told them that I couldn't say yes without talking to my wife first and that I'd let them know tomorrow.. But the thing is, it's only like $1.30 an hour raise, switching to salary with likely 5-10 hours of unpaid overtime each week with every ten weeks being on-call for a weekend (for 10 houses with lazy weekend staff), and pay is monthly, with a one month delay. So If I accept I'm looking at not getting paid again until the end of January. No dice, can't make it work, live check to check now.

I get paid twice a month, so I totally understand. Would it make a difference if they paid the month in advance?

They seem to want you for the job so just tell them there is no way you can go a month (at Christmas!) without pay. Filling this position is a problem for "them" and accepting it is a mixed bag (unpaid overtime) for you. Unless you feel you will loose the job you have now by refusing the promotion (not likely, but you know your situation better than I do) get them to adapt. Posting the job, interviewing, training an outsider are things they are likely to want to avoid. Just ask nicely.

I completely agree with cowboyleland. Coming into this with no prior knowledge of your situation, I'd say you have an opportunity to negotiate.

They worked with me! My employer is an angel. She gave me a gift and a bonus with a no-interest loan that will pay back out of my check starting in February.. and the payments will be less than my raise.
Now I have to adjust to people calling me Sir.. makes me nauseous thinking about it.

Nobody! I hate it!
The job is assisted living; I am the "Team Lead" or House Manager in a house with three residents; They have 24 hour supervision, and several hours each of one-on-one staffing. There are eight staff that I am responsible for.

Purely your decision. I don't think that anyone wishing to own these figures would not buy simply because there were no walls or floors

Ugh. Being the boss is no small task. I foolishly scheduled a day trip to St. Louis last Wednesday, the day after working the evening shift to take one of my consumers to a Blues game.. in St. Louis. So my old creaky tired @$$ drove 220 miles round trip and went to bed at 11:45PM only to get back up at 5:00AM and do it all over again.
I did recover enough by Saturday though to finally introduce my 11.5 year old son and his girlfriend to Palladium Fantasy! THEY LOVED IT! I used my special set of paper minis from last year's GenCon games and dry erase markers on a vinyl mat, and if I wasn't down to 16 days to prepare for the two games I plan to run at the Palladium Books Open House I'd be knocking out another fantasy set right now.
Being the boss, I have to get ahead of my paper work so my week long vacation in the middle of the month doesn't screw me over at the end of the month, so I'll be struggling to get my pregen characters done up until the day I drive 660 miles to Michigan. I may have minis for the pregens to share before then, but I may not.

Sympathies, sir. Where in Michigan? Palladium Books is in Westland, next to Ann Arbor. I usually drive to Indianapolis and then up through Fort Wayne, but because I'm going up alone, I've decided to brave the trip to Chicago so I can pick up a friend in Merrillville to keep me awake for the second half of the trip. On the way back there are others coming from Missouri so I can get someone else to ride along and keep me up.

We used to do the Chicago trip as a day trip from Rolla ... back when I was young
When I worked in Cleveland, me and my one-year-old son used to make the trip to Kansas City every four weeks.
Oh, to be young again

In the past I'd take the train from St. Louis to Chicago and Chicago to Ann Arbor.. I don't like Chicago (too much psychic noise [ people on top of each other ]) so I hope to skirt it very quickly. But I'm far from young, this may be the most taxing trip I've driven yet.

lol! I thought my 600 miles in two days at work week was bad. This past weekend I was On Call at work; basically the company manager to call if anything goes wrong in any of our 10 locations. I've only done this once before since becoming boss and it was a weekend of playing X-Box and answering a couple of calls a day, with a 1.25 page report at the end.
This weekend I started at 3PM when I got off on Friday, thanks to a no-call no-show. I was on the phone dealing with problems until 10:40 that night. On Saturday I was up at 8AM (got to sleep late!) and had about half an hour without dealing with calls until going to bed at 11PM, and actually went to two different locations and worked on the clock for a total of 7.5 hours. On Sunday I was up at 7am to answer a call, and went to work at a location at 2PM, only to leave there and go to another location and work until 9PM. I got home, got in bed, and was there for ten minutes before getting a call that had me get dressed and go back to work in another location until 7AM on Monday. All together, a five page report.
They let me have Monday off to recover and said they'd try to cover Tuesday. Tuesday I was woke up at 7:15AM by the staff I usually relieve asking when I was going to be there. I was able to get to work by 8, so yesterday I had to go in an hour early to make up that extra hour for my overnight staff.
I have 49.5 hours on the clock this week (salary, so no overtime pay) and at least 8 hours to work today.
And I have to finish making characters and minis for my game at the Palladium Book's Open House next week this weekend so I can get everything printed on Monday when I work my last day before vacation. Thus far I have completed almost 4 of my planned 10 pregens and (I gave up on the second game until GenCon), and yesterday I knocked out seven new Skeleton Warrior minis. I managed to get a whole 7.5 hours sleep last night (first time since Friday last week!)
Calgon, take me away!
