thanks cowboy! ok so today I have a cold and I don't feel like trying to wrap my head around the screaming bell rigging just yet I started it this morning and it's just hurting my head so I made some stormvermin to tide you all over till tomorrow ... this is only the first and second rank there will be the third rank and the command squad later ... maybe tonight maybe not depending on how I feel LOL ok a question for all you skaven players out there... I have seen a lot of games with skaven but I never see skaven commanders fielding Stormvermin? looking over their stats I see that they are 3 more points per model per unit so I can see that the point cost is fairly higher for a 60 man standard clan rat unit you will spend 240 points and for the same number of stormvermin you will spend 420 points but for the extra 180pts you get a +1 initiative which means your going sooner than the clan rats, you get a +1 weapons skill which means you will almost always be wounding on a 4+ and some times on a 3+ when your fighting basic troops plus they have heavy armor so they get a 5+ save instead of a 6+ and they can save against great weapons that would just kill basic clan rats... also they have halberds so the third rank can attack and they ignore light armor.... so for 3 more points per model you get to hit sooner, hit better, hit harder, hit more... with a command unit they get a better leadership so they are less likely to run away .... and yet I have never seen anyone field them? why not? anyone? well heres the rank and file storm vermin (again I tried to keep it in the original art style ) ok so it's late and the misses is getting grumpy so here's the back rank guys and the commander the musician and standard will just have to wait till tomorrow

after a long night of being sick I'm back in the saddle I guess LOL ok so here's the rigging so far... there's still lots of cross pieces to do and the ropes but at least we have a start. at this point I think we are moving past the obvious stage and I should start numbering stuff but for those of you who are building along if you want me to do that let me know! I will post a pic of the build in just a second so you can see how it looks built .... Is anyone building this along with me? is anyone going to build this besides me? LOL

I'm amazed by how fast you're working! I hope you feel better now from your cold! I don't have time to build anything at the moment, but when I have time I'm going to try to assemble an army from this stuff. Ryan

LOL thanks Ryan! it's good To know someone out there likes this madness! when I decide to do something I usually do it pretty fast, Photoshop allows me to bust things out pretty quickly but I have been drawing this kind of stuff for years I was even illustrating professorially back in the day when fantasy magazines were still paying for artists. now I mostly illustrate my own stuff that nobody sees LOL Oh well Maybe I can start publishing my fantasy stuff through Brave Adventures as I'm having a really hard time getting my website up. I'm just not good at data-basing LOL
ok so back to skaven here, I'm thinking that after this we need some charge blockers and counter charge units like Rat Ogres and the Doom wheel... I love the Doom wheel It's probably my favorite unit in the game but I haven't wrapped my head around the physics of paper just yet. that will be a great project though and lost of cool bits will come out of it even if the wheel is a fail the residual models will be pretty cool. ok another unit I haven't seen on the table ever is the doom flayer. it uses artillery attack with 2d6 wounds at strength 10 it can pulverize just about any enemy unit, yet I never see it used? again not a skaven player (yet) so I don't know why no one ever brings it?

I'd be happy to set that up for you, and I'd be able to offer the same rate as OBS, plus I'm working on setting up an affiliate link system. Just let me know, and we can start to hash out the details. ^_^ Ryan

Is anyone building this along with me? is anyone going to build this besides me? LOL For sure I'll try to build it. I think I'll make those last platform posts a little shorter so they don't stick out beyond the frame (but that does seem a rat-like thing to do). I may also lay out the figures, reverse them for variation, and make cut files when I get ready to build.

I was going to cut if off but then I thought na the skaven would leave it and put somthing spiky on it and cover it with the pox or something LOL I think you should totally hot rod this stuff any way you want to it's all free and it's all yours so make it the way you want it!

it's funny you should say that Migbib I have a few regiments of those guys that need to see the light of day if for nothing more than Mr. Parduze needs to have a few sets LOL I don't think I ever even showed anyone the Parduzan Mountain goat Calvary ... I like those guys Ryan is a pretty cool guy I'm sure we can work out something that would be mutually beneficial.... besides i'm not really all that needy LOL ok so here's a rat oger to go with that oger driver LOL

Man in the span of a week my home campaign has gone from a vague idea of the party meeting up with a ragtag group of rat people to a rapidly breeding Vermin nation of surface world conquering Rat-Kin! I'm so excited to check this thread every day for what's going to show up next!!!

thanks Dave! you are the master of cool so I take that as a serious compliment! in any Skaven army people fear the bell, and the grey seer , yes he can lay down some serious nasty so he is rightly feared. but the next unit to be feared and one that draws a lot of attention on the battlefield are the rat Ogers they are naturally big and scary when they get into close combat.... but most people have it wrong. It's not any of those units that need to be feared it's the lone assassin that should garnish the shivering night sweats and the sudden jerks awake in the middle of the night wildly looking around at all the shadows to see if anything is moving that shouldn't be. the skaven assassin is a hero unit so you will only see two at the most if you make one a general. now I know some of you may be thinking if I replace my grey seer as a general then I won't be able to cast the nasty spells that Skaven are known for.... yes but your grey seer doesn't have a list of special rules that make the united states constitutions look like a pamphlet on lawn care. the Assassin does. he ignores armor saves and most ward saves, he hits on a 3+ unless your fighting basic troops then it's a 2+ all attacks are poisonous so on a roll of 6 it's a auto wound no save (not even the invulnerable save) his special rules include scurry away, sneaky infiltrator , vermonus valor , a killer not a leader, doge 4+, hidden, poisonous attacks and scout.... crazy versatile almost impossible to hit and can kill most things on the moment it charges with three attacks I give you ladies and gentlemen the skaven Assassin!

That's a nice rendition of Snikch. I'm working on laying out the recolored rats. It's as though you can pump 'em out faster than I can clean them (I remove the black stroke so I can make a tighter cut around the model). It's actually nice though so I can see how many more models might end up in this "set" before trying to lay the models out in InDesign.

thanks my first incounter with Snikch was high elves verse skaven and I thought me high elf lord was all that and a bag of chips.... snickch showed my I was short some chips... he killed my dragon!! MY DRAGON!! seriously??!! well he went on to slaughter a few other units until I learned about skaven assassins LOL now the're the first thing I try to take off the table. My wife was walking by while I was working on the bell stones and the incense bowl and she looked over what I had been doing and asked a very interesting question. how come there are no female Skaven... well my answer was ... " well you see.... um ... it's like this.... they , uh ... well there's this , um .... I don't know ? " to which she said there should be some female Skaven... GW doesn't make female Skaven... soooooooo I did. Meet the Queesa the Red Queen. In a Skaven society it's tough to survive and I would presume it would be more so for a female however the Red Queen hasn't done so with the help of men no the sista is doin it for herself and has surrounded herself with a retanu of all female warriors. Why did I do this you ask... to make the wife happy du!

I love these! And the fact that your wife asked the question; but I have friend who have rats, and you really can't tell the difference at a casual glance, it does take a bit of a close up inspection to tell the difference, so your originals could be either male or female. But I like this solution better!

LOL well this way I can say yes dear here is the red queen and her personal body guards ... they are all female and not slutty or over sexuilized heaven forbid I draw a lady in a metal bikini and call it armor... either way though the thought occurred to me that some of y'all might not have basses for your models .... never fear Pigmi games is here with more free stuff why ... because I can!

When I first saw the female warriors I thought they'd been standing too close to the warpstones and grown a third leg. Then I realized it was a side view and they have a loin cloth/dress between their legs. Anyway, I've got the pdf of the spearmen (spear-rats...?). It's not as dense as the originals but I stick with what I know. I'll work on the cut files later. New post with cut files

Your absolytly right there is a loin cloth between their legs. It looks better at 8.5 x 11 but when you shrink it down it looses some of the things that might be obvious at a larger scale. I try not to do to much of that anymore but I still have problems from time to time. you should have seen some of my early stuff it was AWFUL ! LOL if it helps when I'm done I'll toss all of this into a PDF file it will only take me a few minutes. I still have so much to do LOL

if it helps when I'm done I'll toss all of this into a PDF file it will only take me a few minutes. I wouldn't worry too much for my sake (but someone else may appreciate it). I do know how to pack them in tightly and edge to edge but I need the registration marks. I stick with the old One Monk way because it's easier to cut the score line (if you have to cut it by hand). It is also easier to create the cut file when I can mirror a whole row of models at one time (which is the real reason I laid it out that way).

I know this isn't exactly useful for warhammer, but what about some npc Skaven? Like some craftsmen or tavern goers, or maybe some little ratlings? This! A thousand times this!! lol!!! LMAO !! ok so let me get this strait, were talking about a race of creatures that are so evil that their entire purpose is to destroy and corrupt the world for no other purpose than they can, a race that leaves their young to fend for themselves and the strong ones survive to make it up the ranks of back stabbing, in fighting political corruption that is Skaven society while the weaker ones get eaten or die a miserable death. A race that eats and feeds on each-other both figuratively and literally, where they experiment on each-other to make huge near undead monstrosities capable of ripping down buildings or dying with a whimper in the corner, a race where magic flows through them on a level so powerful and full of corruption they can bring plagues and death of the most unpleasant kind to entire communities while feeding of the crys and sorrow of those dying, and trow warp lightning at children for fun ... so you want me to make some Skaven that have stopped all this to what ? go hang out a pub with some friends to catch a game? start a day care center??... you want Skaven townies ... ya alright, I'll see what I can do.

Man I don't know about all that, but some poor sap has to hammer out halberds and make the cheese for the rat queen. Even a ruthless army of chaotic evil needs to have a victory party otherwise what's the point?

Even a ruthless army of chaotic evil needs to have a victory party otherwise what's the point? Human slaves ... loads of them, and they even make their way to the battlefield all juiced up on warp stone, which will kill them but it makes them like blood crazed zombies until they are consumed and die. then the Skaven eat them. No worries though I'm working on a skaven Pub in my mind called the festering monk, LOL
