Don't recall seeing anything about Lou Coatney's free downloadable card models and games here before, but I've not made a thorough check. However, his name came up on The Miniatures Page today, and having checked his websites, I'd suggest anyone with an interest in World War Two boardgames and ship models (in both 2D standee and 3D forms) should check them out. There are too many items to list here, but all the main navies are covered at least partially - including the Norwegians. The models are often quite simple structural waterline constructions, without colours or textures, but as all I checked are available as JPEGs, it should be possible to add these by those with the necessary skill.
Lou's websites are a little old school - pages of text and illustrations with little formatting, and a few irritating adverts - plus the downloads, while all free, are a little clunky - so a typical boardgame will have RTF files for the rules and maybe the background notes, but JPEGs for the maps, counters, tables and charts, and each page of those will need downloading, then resizing and printing separately. There's a wealth of material, however, so if the stuff's of interest, it's definitely worth persevering.
Some of you may recall perhaps Lou's most famous game, Sturm Nach Osten from 1982, published by World Wide Wargamers, which recreated the entire European Eastern Front WWII campaign, from June 1941 to May 1945 on a single, roughly 55 cm square map board! His other games are similarly designed, as fast-paced, reasonably historically accurate games, on small map boards with counters.
So, go to:
Lou Coatney's Homepage
and
Lou Coatney's Military and Naval History Games, Writings, and Models
And please bear in mind the following comment by Lou, from the top of the second of these homepages:
"Note: I am now 68, and this webpage must be renewed every April. If I am no longer around, it disappears, so folks would be wise to go ahead download (for your own personal use) everything you want ... or might want ... now."
