Thanks to FNH for bringing this game to my attention! What is it? It's Advanced Wars( a GameboyAdvance & DS) turn-based strategy game recreated for the table top. The game is a work in progress and is currently in beta. With enough of the assets compiled and printed for playtest. The system provides for fairly fast play and a clever damage tracker for each unit without having to clutter the board with additional reference. It seems to be well on its way to capturing the unique feel and clever character of the digital version of this game. It can be found here at the Board Game Geek.. So go and join the discussion, download the beta game, print and play and then give them feedback. What a cool idea! And OneMonk could have a nice set of 2.5d figures, armour, trees, cities, etc. to be used instead of the flat prints mounted to tokens. I was really taken with this game when I first picked it up for my GBA. I loved the art style, the swift and easy gameplay with loads of tactics and strategy. Soooo.... as an exercise(or obsession)...I've started messing about with some 3d card stock tanks and models myself. UpdateBetter photo & 3 tank units designed. (Med & Light tank for Orange Army. And Med Tank for Green Army). New trees, surprisingly the circular trees are easier to build than the orignal pyramid designs I experimented with. New (simpler factory & green army mech & light infantry are also finished. Just not build. The grid is 1" squares to give you a sense of scale. And all of it is my own creation save the soldier carrying the RPG. Which is a 2d flat of the actual sprite. I plan to redraw them. 2 Tanks have been created the Med. & Light version for Orange Army. Right now I am designing different Hill/Mountains and Trees. And the Jeep, Rocket & Bomber. ~Floyd

Thanks OMB...I do have most of those. NT does a good job with them as they are all easily identifiable. Though I am not a big fan of hand drawn patterns. These also don't reduce to a usable state(without pulling out the last of the hair that remains on my head) at 3/4" of an inch. ~Floyd

Thats really neat! Did not play the original, but have Advance Wars DS. The special ability system is a bit hard to wrap my brain around, but the core game is a lot of fun!

I loved the original 2 games. I've not played the DS game since I do not own the DS...yet.... but yes the Core game is really fun. It's a nice mix of strategy, tactics, paper _rock_scissors with just enough element of chance thrown in to keep things interesting and not stale or static.
I saw some images of the new game coming out. Its a new design style...a bit more serious and gritty though not quite realistic. I kinda miss the old style...but as long as the game is intriging...

Very cool. I had always had in the back of my mind to do a miniatures version of Advance Wars. I like the DS versions, but I suck at it, I would much prefer the miniatures board game version. JIM

You ever play Fire Emblem? It is a comparable "Fantasy themed" tactics game in similar vein to Advanced Wars?
I have never played its sequel or subsequent GameCube release but I always wanted to try them.

THe FE series is kinda similar to the advance wars series, but isnt nearly as good. Permadeath on characters you care about and are trying to level up is a constant theme of the series, and its a very outdated and frustrating mechanic IMO.
