The theme for this months HOARD is Supervillains & Birthday Cake Battles! This can be any sort of miniature on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your figures, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of August, 2015. Because everybody likes cake.

To celebrate their 30th birthday, Rare announced that they're releasing a set of 30 video games they've made over the years. On that list is one of my personal faves of all time, Jet Force Gemini. Unique game that was well ahead of its time, and some of what it did has become the industry standard since then. Plus, you get to blow up evil giant blue space ants. To celebrate its impending re-release, Hugh and I have been working up a set of sprites based on Jet Force. Been having particular fun with the 2.5d bugs, but the whole thing has been a blast. Here are two of the basic characters and a pair of bugs all done up. What do you think?

Clayface (In Batman the Animated Series Style). I know he is out there already but i thought I would do my own version since he is one of my favorites and I am trying to get back on the Cardboard figure horse. I havent had time to build him, but I think he looks pretty good. Link for full DL www.dropbox.com/s/v78qrf1vlz16vwt/Clayface_003%20copy.png?dl=0

Hey, so obviously next month is the Halloween horde (or at least it traditionally is), and the next few months are TBD, but what is "The End" in December? We aren't stopping Hordes are we? I know it is a lot of work, but it is so awesome. Of course, maybe it is just a cool theme idea, end of days stuff like horsemen, nuclear fail-safes, killer cyborgs, etc. Its the latter, right?

So my jet force guys are still incoming (should be tonight), just running a tad slow. After all the last minute madness getting the papercut stuff finished off this weekend, I just got an extra 30 hours of work at my new day job this week on top of what was scheduled. Excitement abounds!

I know it is a lot of work, but it is so awesome. Of course, maybe it is just a cool theme idea, end of days stuff like horsemen, nuclear fail-safes, killer cyborgs, etc. Its the latter, right? Actually, you are correct on all accounts. It's an all out apocalypse themed horde and it's my last call for assistance on this front. I've asked for help in getting these processed for years with no takers, or takers who then who fall through, which is rather discouraging, and I'm tired. The post-Hoard process works like this; 1) Gather all entries and place in layout document; basically a silhouette compatible sheet with Hoard info on it. 2) Construct cutting files based on layout documents. 3) Print, cut, build, photograph final layout. 4) Upload to website. Now #4 is always going to be me, where I need help is on the other three, which can be broken up between multiple people using a file-sharing site like my dropbox account. I would like the Hoards to continue, I'm working on catching up on the three outstanding at the moment, including this one. For next year I'd like to not have a Hoard in August, as most people's attention is on the Papercuts Showcase, and instead have a "Hoard Rulz!" (non-ridiculous name pending) showcase for games rules writers with the limitation that their rules must be limited to using only pieces that have been submitted to Hoards in the prior eleven months. Which only works if the Hoards keep operating. The game rules could be RPG, TTG, boardgame, card game, they would just have to limit themselves to Hoard entries as a challenge element. That's my future plans. Hopefully someone will step up to this to help with the workload. -Eric

it seams to me that #1 and #2 would go well together, I have a pretty good handle on getting odd shapes into minimal space, and i have a decent lighting setup that I could improve, so i'd be willing to assist with #1 and #2.

I'd also like to toss my name in as someone to help. I haven't worked with cutfies at all, but layout and formatting are a large part of what I do. Build pics are something that could possibly also work, since I now have access to the tools and will soon have an area set up for it.
I've only started submitting to the horde these past few months, but I've been following the community since MiP #11. I'll happily spend my free time making sure this is a continuing endeavor, because it's been a part of my gaming life for years.

see and people like me come along and mess it all up LOL I don't know anything about cut files so I make a large black boarder around my models and fill up the page in wonky ways so I can get as many units as I can out of one sheet of paper. the large black boarder is because when you cut things out by hand your not going to be super accurate no matter how hard you try, but then you line up the model on the fold and trim off the rest of the black border once it's put together and bingo your model looks great!. Also no matter how you line it up your always going to be cutting them out individually so I put as many models as would fit on a page... I hate wasting paper as some months I can't afford to replace it. It's not that I'm super poor it's that as much as I love Dave Graffam's models I don't want to super size it and live in one ... so some months (after the bills are paid) there isn't much left. This is a counter productive process to making things for cut files. I guess you have to have a specific line up and the black boarders have to be a certain size, I just now realized how much work goes into fixing what I make for the cut files LOL especially if you don't have Photoshop. Is there a template for the cut files boarders and spacing I could probably make them pretty quick for all you rich people living the dream! LOL Also now That I have a nice camera I should be able to produce some nice build pics.

Is there a template for the cut files boarders and spacing I could probably make them pretty quick for all you rich people living the dream! LOL A couple things about cutfiles: 1) I've been sharing png files that can serve as layers in your PDFs for old- and new-style registration marks for the Silhouette cutters. I have two sets of pngs. This set has a 1" margin at the top of the page which is nice if you have some standard product banner that you'd like to include. If you are trying to squeeze more space out of your page, this other set reduces that top margin a bit. I intentionally do NOT have the margins set AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE because the machine (in my experience) can't reliably read its own registration marks at the smallest settings. Also, these files should work fine on either A4 or Letter format paper when printed at original scale. The "cutting_area.png" is purely there to let you know where it's safe to put graphics. The red area is the safe cutting area. The grey areas have to stay clear of graphics because it could interfere with reading the registration marks, and the white area just won't cut. You can have graphics in the white area, though. Sometimes simple things like tabs go outside the cutting area, but are quick to cut by hand. Minis? PLEASE keep them in the safe cutting area. If there's no good reason to put something really close to the edge of the safe cutting area, don't. 2) Silhouette Studio software is free to download, and simple to use. There's a blank .studio file I've included with the pngs where the registration marks should be aligned with the pngs. I've been thinking of making a quick video of how I make cutfiles just so folks who've never used a machine cutter can see how easy it is to make cutfiles that will work fine even if you can't personally test them. But even if you don't make them yourself, having the registration marks available already makes the instructions much easier for people who want to use community-generated cutfiles. 3) If you cut a lot of minis, and the cutting process is something you don't enjoy all that much, the cost of a machine cutter can really make the hobby more enjoyable! The Silhouette Portrait is about $150 on Amazon.

I would gladly serve as backup for #1 and #2. I routinely am making cutfiles for my own nefarious purposes. Are the hoard files still only using the old Silhouette SD reg marks, or have they been switched to the newer reg marks? Or are they layered now? I admit the last couple months I've been selfishly trying to get my own stuff off the ground... If no one ends up picking up this task on a permanent basis, please sign me up.
I just recently bought a printer, though I've been having trouble getting a full print-and-cut cycle done. The printouts look great now, but the cutting process might need some calibration... Still, if I can get that going again, I am happy to try to do #3 on a regular basis. Cutting and edging should take no time, and taking pictures... well... I suck but I'd rather try and suck than worry about the end of the hoards!

I have no idea on cut-files, so I'm not a good candidate. And without a cutter, getting everything cut out in a timely fashion for promo photos probably won't work either. I hope that some of the help offered above will take some weight off your shoulders

Well I am happy to help with the cutting out and photographing of the figures (Step 3) if others can compile the figures. I can also try to get the figures together if others drop the ball but I don't have a cutting machine and know nothing about them. I will defer to the experts but I know sometimes there is something that comes up. And obviously, as a hand-cutter I wont be testing the cut-files.

Can Jet Force defeat the combined might of Clayface and the drone horde? Take it to the tabletop and find out! I know it's a bit late, but here's the August 2015 Cardboard warriors Forum Horde! onemonk.com/fh-2015.html
