Hey, look who's in the big time! Do you ever think about consolidating your "corporate identity?" I think Mayhem In Paper is more descriptive than OneMonk, but I totally understand wanting to show respect for Jim.
On the other hand, maybe it's the herd that is crazy.

"One Monk Miniatures - a wholly owned subsidiary of Mayhem in Paper." It would have been nice to purchase WWG as well, but they didn't seem serious about selling and I only really wanted the Deadfall line of western products.
This is the same convention I've been going to for the past two years. Every year I learn something new, this year power is automatically included in the booth fee so I'll be bringing my Portrait and have that chattering away and cutting out models all day.

Day 1 reflections and lessons;
"Do you have any dragons?" No, there's free ones at the website though. -I'm not going to make a Dragon, probably make a Hydra though. Hydras are cool.
"Do you have any buildings?" -...Not yet, it's on the list.
As always, "What are these for?" "Can you play games with these?" "Oh! You can play games with these!"
Having business cards and a banner are essential.
I've been selling pre-built minis this year; sci-fi not popular, fantasy does pretty well. CD collections are still a good deal. The Chimera Hybrid Cannoneers have done well, people like big bugs. People like the Sampans, but don't buy them. The Hamilton Ram Steamtank has been a crowd favorite, especially the brown tone or ones with the dual gatling turret mod.
To continue my debrief; I became ridiculously ill the day after the convention and am just now getting better so note #1; use hand sanitizer. -I missed out on several big sales because I did not have card reading capability, working on it for next time. -Sold more CD collections, next year I'll definitely do the fantasy and Steamtanks collection cds, fell through a crack in this crazy year. -Sold exactly seven pre-assembled paper minis, including bases, for $1 each. -Sold more pre-built Hamilton Rams, sold a couple pre-built Steamtowers. -Didn't sell a single printed page of minis.
Thoughts for next year; not sure yet, cd collections are popular with a good profit margin and travel well, especially at conventions. Pre-prints and pre-builds take up a great deal of room and time, but are necessary to have around for demonstration purposes.
Any chance of seeing you at planet Comic-Con in Kansas city this may?
I thought about demo games but decided it would use up to much of my table space. I did have power this year so I demonstrated the Portrait cutter and popping models and minis off of the page. That went over gangbusters with the crafters working in the Artist's Alley selling things like stickers of anime characters that they were cutting out by hand.
Another good piece of presentation for this year was business cards instead of bookmarks. I was at a gaming convention in August where a gentlemen had very nice business cards for his gaming demo...in a ratty, torn cardboard box and the cards weren't immediately visible. I made sure to put my cards in a little silver card holder so they presented well, a few hundred of them left my table.
This years video interview was a collection of the public. My wife and my friend Kevin both feature in this one.
LOL was it your wife that called it Bizarre !! LOL she would probably get along very nicely with my wife. when I geek out on something nerdy she just rolls her eyes and walks away LOL I had to bleed to get her in my kick starter video! and I mean BLEEEED !! I spent weeks at Joanns fabrics and Sally's beauty supplies ! the shoe shopping was the worst!
I do like messing around with it. my next avatar is going to be all Mordhimey .... is that proper Mordhiem vernacular ? would it be Mordhiemish? no that sounds like a religion ... Morhimeicle maybe? well at any rate it's going to have Mordheim elements to it LOL
oldschooldm: Yup. More power to anyone who tries it. It will only whet the appetite for people who want paper minis that were designed to be paper minis. :-) Fronts and Backs FOREVER! :-) [... it's bait, don't bite it! ... ]

cowboyleland: Now I have seen it. It doesn't advance our hobby, but anyone with half a brain who wanted 2nd rate figures could easily figure this out for themselves so I guess he isn't doing any harm.

berneart76: well, this is fun, (not) transferring all my papercrafting sets into the cloud. The stuff I got from DriveTrhruRPG was simple with their library desktop app,but my other stuff, sometimes with multiple duplicate copies is entertaining.

berneart76: Vermin King I usually use a mix of drybrush/watercolor/photocopy and occasionally posterizing at different levels of opacity.
Feb 26, 2019 20:46:54 GMT -9
berneart76: Vermin King, that's similar to the enhancing that I do on my texturing. I've found that sometimes I need to scale up or scale down the image (usually by 50 or 25 percent down or 200 or 300 percent up) to make get the enhancements to look "right"
Feb 26, 2019 20:44:53 GMT -9
Vermin King: On the zebras, I did multiple enhancements and cartoon filters and used them at 100%, and they still didn't look that different than the photos
Feb 26, 2019 12:27:26 GMT -9
Vermin King: When I make a figure or terrain piece based on a photo, I clean it up and align things to look 'right', then I create another layer and do enhancing and cartoonizing on it. I then adjust opacity over the photo image until it looks good. On the zebras,

Vermin King: berneart76, do you mean giving them green or purple manes and tails? and a few piercings? maybe a cig hanging out of their mouths?
Feb 26, 2019 12:24:18 GMT -9
Vermin King: cartoonizing a zebra doesn't do much

Vermin King: And due to the snow, I'm off tonight. I am going to miss the cash on the paycheck, but I'm glad they want their employees to be safe

ignatious: Actually I was referring to the two previous posts. I was trying to be subtle in order to sublimate the crassness. Read them again, but in Mel Brooks voice while he is winking, and nudging the person to his right.
Feb 9, 2019 13:38:11 GMT -9
Vermin King: Sure. Euphemize us
Feb 8, 2019 18:40:48 GMT -9
ignatious: would anyone care for a euphemism?

cowboyleland: We hadn't had snow for a few days. Last night the plow came down my street and did nothing but fill every ones driveways back in. Just for practice, I guess.

Vermin King: In KC we had an ice storm (with thunder sleet) the other night. Left things drivable, but last night the plow came down my street. They took all the rough edges off. Might as well have ran a Zamboni...

okumarts: Vermin King... Mind Blown!
