I dont wsntvto steal thunder from the papercuts. But I have an idea in my head for awhile now and I thought I would get it out of my system and go ahead and share it. Im also a mrmbet of a few rpg design forums and one has two competitions similar to the papercuts that I thought if merged would make an awesome miniature design competition. One is the 24 hour rpg. Where you have 24 consecutive hours to concieve write and format an rpg. The other is called iron game chef. Where there is a much longer design time limit. But you have specific elements and themes that you must incorporate into your game. Similar to the papercuts.
Ok my idea a competition where your mini(s) must meet some criteria ( samurai, pig, and plaid...or whatever..) any one entering must post they are entering and it counts as their start time and the must then post the finished entry within 24 hours. Is this something worth pursuing. I think it would be a fun way to pursue all sorts of different themes with a fast turn over.

I'm thinking along other lines. I'm thinking that it could be fun with a monthly terrain horde to supplement the minis - I'm thinking buildings, tiles, accessories, mats and maps. It would be some good fun for those of us, who can construct but not draw.

you know I am pretty good at drawing and mediocre at making terrain and what not but were I fall down is rules creations and writing. if we could do it in teams that might work but it takes me a really long time to create a solid rules system for a game, and I don't really know anything about RPG's.

aaron, I don't think paperpusher means that we should write RPG's, he's using that as an example from another forum, as I understand it. The way I read his suggestion, is that there are some similar challenges, where artists has 24 hours do do a mini to fit a certain theme - basically a 24 hr version of the monthly thing we have, or am I misunderstanding? However, your thoughts does open up for some interesting possibilities... what if there was a monthly "adventure challenge"? A plot theme, then write an adventure, make some terrain to fit it, or design some minis - or all of the above! And people could do it individually or in teams to add coherence, as they would please. I think 24 hrs might not result in a good trade-off between "turnover" and quality, though, but give it a month, and you have something.

In retrospect you dont see alot of terrain in the mmip. But terrain is mainly what you see published for retail. Isn't that odd?

My recent side project I had fronts and backs of 10 figures draen and ready for scanning in about 4 hours. I could have had them done in 24. By no means do they have to be perfect. Sometimes I think a time crunch can crush creativity but at otherctimes I have seen it really fuels creativity.

@cardstock dane: the monthly hoards have included terrain and vehicles in the past. If you are inspired to create terrain to share I think it would be welcomed in the hoards.
As for creation time, sometimes I'm seized with an idea and I plunge in an get it done. Other times stuff sits around mostly finished for years. It all depends on how my moods and my life are interacting.

Well, I was just going by the guidelines, and they only mention minis. And considering that there seems to be a bit of work involved on squirmydad's part, I assumed that the monthly hoard was minis only. If terrain truly is accepted in the monthly hoard, I will certainly be looking into it as soon as there is a neat theme, and we all know that we won't have to wait long for that to happen.

It was squirmydad's recent observations about the work involved that made me say "I think it would be welcomed." It seems to me the main thing would be to keep your contribution to a reasonable size so that including it wouldn't entail too much work on behalf of the (new) Hoards team. I once went crazy and did backs for something like 30 of Patrick's western/Victorian figures. I suggested that maybe it was too much. They all got included but it put the hoards months behind.

That's a reasonable idea. Get a weekend of the year. Start by declaring a theme at 00:00 of Saturday, and each contestant declares when he starts and has to finish in 24 hours, with the final deadline being 24:00 of Sunday.
P.S. Reread yor post,@paperusher, it was so full of typos that it was hard to understand at first. Also next time DESCRIBE the topic in the topic title, never post in a forum with a general theme like "I have a suggestion", "can someone anwser my question?" "heres something you would like". Titles must be on the format of "Suggestion for a paper miniature contest" ou "24 hours miniature design competition" so that we can know what it is about without opening the thread.
