I'm working on doing this little guy as a model suitable for gaming. Jesse's model is great as a model, but way too fiddly for gaming, I think. So I'm trying to find an easier way to capture the fenders without all the fiddly bits. When I did my build of Jesse's M-ATV, I scaled it so that it was slightly larger than a Humvee. I was wrong. This is a heavy truck I'm going to go with the boxed rear fenders instead of the more common rear fender that looks like they curved garden edging over the tire.

Nice! Definitely looks like it will be an awesome build! Will it have mountable weapons?

My thoughts were that builders could use the pintle-mount weapons from Genet Models

That would definitely work perfect! I gotta admit Mel's Universal Weapon Pack really is universal hahaha!

Wow. I thought I'd revive this and throw it into the March Hoard, or at least make it available. My less than successful prototype must have been deleted. I might try afresh

I was wondering if I could get a little help on something. 28mm, 30mm and 32mm makes my head spin, especially after a stressful work day. I found this image Would someone mind turning these numbers into model lengths? For the vardo, it is supposed to be between 9.5 feet long and 10.5 feet long, so I made it 2 inches. But the M-ATV is an actual vehicle, so I'd like to be reasonably close to the right dimensions

After a few calculations I come up with this: 1/60 Scale 28mm Scale 30mm Scale 32mm Scale Height 44.45 45.98 49.39 53.34 Width 41.53 42.96 46.14 49.83 Length 104.48 108.08 116.09 125.57 Axle to Axle 65.51 67.77 72.79 78.61 Axle to Cg 34.93 36.13 38.81 41.91 All measurements are in mm. Could someone check me to make sure that I have that right?

That is very helpful.
I think I have a way of doing this that won't be as complicated as the vardo (though I still plan on doing the easier vardo).
Three 'boxes': Front fenders and wheels, Hood and cabin, and the Utility area and rear wheels. Not three parts, but three boxes. Not as many angles and more 90 degree angles, but I think you will be able to recognize it without it being as complicated as the Papercruiser version.

After dealing with an IRS issue this morning, I got very frustrated working on the M-ATV. So I did a redesign of one of the JASDF Light Mobile Vehicles and recolor. I might build it tonight while I watch Roy and UNC Oh, yeah, here's the link -- www.mod.go.jp/j/kids/equipment/papercraft.htmlFirst thing I did was print both the color and white versions to pdf at 2 pages/page. Re-did the layouts, enlarged by 5%. Re-worked the wheels and axles so that they won't look totally ignorant. Put the fold lines windows and lights from the color version onto the white version and then did a recolor of the white version in desert tan. I think I have it right, and it should be a fairly quick build. BTW -- I finally found out what vehicle this is. It is a Komatsu LAV

Walmart was out of Krylon one time I was in there, so picked up a can of Rust-o-leum Clear, which smells worse and takes longer to dry. Even after an hour, it's still a bit tacky. Scored it, but probably should have given it a couple more hours. I should have made solid lines for the dashed score lines, leaving the valley fold lines alone. Oops. I was just wanting to get in a quick build, so hopefully it won't look too bad. I was looking at the white version, and it looks pretty sweet, too. I had looked at it again, thinking I might do a repaint to look like the Punisher model above's colors with the white wheels, but I decided I'd rather build

Glued on the axles and checked the inner wheel opening for fit, had to enlarge slightly. Here's one of the things I wanted to fix If you have wheels with two faces and the tread, why set it up with that much obvious white, so I put the wheel face texture in the white of the inner face and enlarged the 'contact area' to be a cut out. So, I enlarged the cut out area again, and it should be good now. I'll soon know if it works

Is there a color scheme you would like on this? A repaint wouldn't take long at all. After installing new phone system this afternoon, I could use a simple relaxing task

Always been a fan of 3 color Camo but it's a tough one to do I think lol, other wise for Urban ops a marine gray is neat lol.

Like this? Or maybe this? Or this? I haven't worked at lining up camo lines, but it shouldn't be bad ... I hope Remember, this is the JASDF model listed at the bottom of the png's, and instructions can be found on the site

Those are some pretty epic paint schemes! I'm not sure what it is about the middle one but those spots look neat lol, not sure which I like more lol! I'm gonna have to give one of these a build, they don't look too hard either. What do they scale when compared to the Terra Force?

On the desert tan one I did, it looks good as far as scale with Chris's M11. photo posted on March 5th

I think it is time to revisit this Part of the problem is that most of them are set up like this Open bed, turret on top, odd back fenders, lots of bits and bobs, and that odd rack ... If you want a good model of the Oshkosh M-ATV, I highly recommend Jesse's model at papercruiser.com/downloads/oshkosh-m-atv-mrap-paper-model/I did an advanced build of this and it is a fantastic model, now residing in a financial planner's office in Oshkosh, Wisconsin It is a great model, but not what a gamer would find suitable. I don't believe the FAAV method would be suitable either. If I make it squared, the covered rack may be a good solution, but this is not an option (at least for now) Making it square, and extending to the edge of the fender would be a solution. Or I could go with the M-ATV Engineer/Ambulance platform That's what I am going to shoot for. If anyone finds a good top view, please point me to it

Frustrating. When I worked on this before, I found a view of the doors without the mirrors in the way. My 'clean' view is not correct, so I was trying to find the original image and rebuild it

Working on getting elements together for the M-ATV, but starting to make errors, so having found out earlier today that the vehicle I modified above is the Komatsu LAV, I thought I'd research a bit on it, and frankly, it is a great scout vehicle, it is a great escort vehicle and would really be a good swat vehicle. I might have to go back and give that guy a little more love. Unlike the Panhard that it resembles and the Hummer, you can actually pack a crew in there. With a decent model worked out already, I think I need to make it a bit more special, instead of just throwing textures at my modified template. And scale it correctly, which it isn't, though it is close, I think

I am making progress on the cab ... But I need to rebuild the Robbins Medallions for AirDave, and a couple more of the Motorpool models, so I need to make this a piddle-with project until I get some other things done And now I am considering an automobile from the late 1910's to early 1920's for the investigators in this month's Hoard...
