The first texturing on the initial building for the Fishing Village is completed. This is a small, low building, a curved cruck A-Frame measuring 3" wide by 5" long by 2 1/2" tall.
Found my texturing groove and an initial coloring scheme concept to go with the picture in my head. Now to see if I can find my groove still for page layouts.

Getting there, page layouts are looking good. Added some fish traps and wicker baskets, and a small net on a rack. Will be working on finalizing some labeling simple instructions, then doing a test build for some photos.
I think I still remember how to use In Design for PDF creation...
Preliminary Page Layout images (at reduced resolution):
( and yes, since I know that there will be a request for it, working on a stone textured version as well)

Well, it has been completed, submitted for approval.
7 pages of instructions, plus the 2 pages for the model. Not as complex as my previous work, as it currently is a single layer, has no interior or cutfiles associated with it.
Look for updates on when it gets approved for release on DriveThru RPG.

Making progress on the second building for the Fishing Village. The second building is a Gallic/Celtic inspired Roundhouse. I decided to work on one with a sloped roof edge that rises to allow a taller entrance door than the wall/lower roof edge has. I'm pretty happy with the geometry of it right now and am proceeding to the part separation/layouts and texturing.
(Unfolding that roof will be interesting!)

Texturing on the Round House is proceeding, working on a version with an accessible interior. The initial version will be a wattle and daub version to go with the Fishing Village Cruck House.
Had a bit of a setback when I went to work on the roof, and i realized I missed the guidelines for the fold under textured tabs.
And working on stone textures as well.

Amazingly, the geometry for the 5 layer roof for the round house turned out just fine. I did a quick B/W test build to make sure it fit together properly, given its odd angular/offset sitting on the Round House. It even assembles easier than I had thought it would as well. I also raised the wall height a bit to make it more of a normal height entry, so that you wouldn't have to duck your head too much to enter.

On the pier, taller wall height is probably right, but on ground, cruck houses, etc. usually were over pits. The interior was excavated out a foot or two. I guess they liked earth-sheltered homes. More energy efficient

I did a quick and dirty test of the lower wall height I originally envisioned, even for on a pier, and it doesn't look as out of scale for a figure as I thought it might:

Well, need some small accessories to not waste so much white space on the layouts, so the first one I've worked out is a 3D wicker/woven fish trap.

And of course, an interior accessory is needed, in this case a fire pit.
Looking back over the pages to see if things are laid out well, and working on part labeling and score lines.

Putting together the package for the Round House, this will consist of the following:
Round House in Plaster/Wattle and Daub and Stone textures, with interiors Complex and simple roofs Round base
There will also be a outer skin, no interior, print and play, version also
It will include a single texture version of the 6x3 pier sections and 1 inch pilings from the wharf set as well as an optional base.
Hopefully concurrent with the Round house set will be a multi texture with interior version of the Cruck House as well.
Following those, the next models in the series will be (from left to right) A small side bayed cruck house, A hipped roof open pavilion, ( next to the bayed cruck is the pavilion with hipped roof removed) A long house. As an accessory somewhere along the line, a small boat will be provided as well.
( I think i found a groove...)

After working out some layout issues, and accessories, almost ready to put together the package for the "Round House". Worked out a larger platform to tie into the Wharves set, plus the wattle and daub and stone wall textures, some accessories ( nets , fish traps and crustacean traps) and a simple, 1 piece roof besides the 5 layered contorted roof.

These turned out wonderful! Thanks-- working on some fine tuning and adjustments. the walls are too big around for the inner floor/base, so will be adjusting them, and will be making some adjustments to the lower layer of the complex roof, but hop to have this set ready for release next week.

Those are great! I'm not sure I *need* more roundhouses (clearly I have too many already) but I sure do *want* these

After some redoing of the Round House layouts, finishing up fine tuning on them, on more page to work on, the non-interior walls page. Then I'll be getting to instructions and pictures and assembling the product for release. So far the package is up to 10 pages!

Took a break from working on the Round House page layouts and cutfiles to do work on some dugout/skiff/canoe designs for the fishing village:
In other updates, I have the page layouts for the round house completed, took some extra time to work on accessories like 3D chests, baskets, shelves and some 2D vegetation standees to occupy dead space on the pages.
I'm thinking I need to do one more page layout with just the different accessories....
And then also was doing some work on the Cruck House with interiors as well.

I have to ask, and sorry if you answered this already - what software are you using? It looks like SketchUp to my semi-trained eye, and if that was the case I assume you are using the same unfold-plugin I do (which is the only one I could find). I am curious how you manage the unfolds for curved surfaces. That is, if you are using SketchUp in the first place...

Dominic, I do use Sketchup. For curved surfaces it comes down to trial and error on using the unfolding plugin available to get the optimal number of surfaces that it will handle. It is a combination of using the smoothing function, and fiddling with the unfolding plugin, frequently breakign a curved surface down into multiple sections and then re-joining them once they have been flattened. I'll try to work on a tutorial on using it to post here as a separate topic. Thomas

berneart76: Thanks! A tutorial would be great, but it helps to know that it is at least possible to do it this way.

12 pages of PDF's for the Round House set have been assembled and tested with the Silhouette cutfiles. Will be working on a second verification, and re-setting up my cutting/assembly/photography area in the house to put together the instructions and promotional pictures over the long weekend ahead of me.
If there are no distractions this should be ready for release next week !
