Hmmm, see, this is why I have so much trouble with gnomes. Are they dwarf hobbits? Are they elf hobbits? Are they their own thing that isn't a hobbit? Screw it, they're ALL tinkers now. Going the Dragonlance route, oversized wrenches and goggles for everyone! And that is a very Warcraft vibe of gnomes as well.

Some of the heroes in these packs will be commissions, where I have gotten the permission of the client to include their fantasy RPG character in a 6-pack of minis. I call them "sponsored" heroes. Can't really complain when people are willing to pay me to finish a marketable pack Here's the first finished sponsored hero, a half-elf sorceress. I think she'd make a pretty solid "general purpose" caster character as well, works as a wizard, warlock or druid.

Sponsored Heroes would be a good name for a set

Sponsored Heroes would be a good name for a set This hero is brought to you by Blue Potion! Blue Potion, for when you run out of spells before you run out of monsters.

Going the Dragonlance route, oversized wrenches and goggles for everyone! That's also the World of Warcraft concept of a gnome, so you'll have about 14 million people who will be expecting it. Edit: Hadn't read coyotepunc's post when I wrote this. Sorry to repeat the obvious.

I really liked the 4e version of gnomes where they were like savage little feywild hobbits

Waaaaay late to this conversation, but I've run into similar issues with Gnomes and Halflings. I tend to take Jeff's take that gnomes are to elves what halflings are to humans, but for practical paper mini purposes I find halflings/gnomes to be so small already that any further "thinning out/fae-ifying" of the gnomes to relate them to elves/differentiate them from halflings makes them ridiculously tiny in paper mini form. So short of giving them all point red hats or dunking them steampunk, I'd be interested to hear how you guys practicaly distinguish them in paper mini form?

Gnomes have mustaches and beards and pointy ears. They have big heads and tiny bodies. They don't need to look much like elves, apart from pointy ears and maybe slightly angular features. Their clothing and gear should either be steampunky, or very deep-foresty, but not agrarian.
Halflings have round ears and muttonchops, but no mustache or chin hair. They run a bit stouter than gnomes, and are a bit taller, but those differences might only be apparent at 28mm scale with unusually fat or tall halflings. Their clothing and gear should be either rustic, or fancy, depending on their means, but it should not be techy or woodsy.
Upon reflection, I'm beginning to think that a gnome druid makes more sense than a halfling one, or at least would be a much wilder, more magical version, with a halfling druid being more interested in farms and harvest. Interesting...

This next hero-pack is running a bit half-elf heavy, but, those are the fella's I'm getting commissioned for and what my friends are playing. ... Maybe I'll just avoid halflings and gnomes entirely, and pray that nobody ever commissions me to draw one

If someone commissions one, ask them how they would like to see it. The one who is paying for it is ALWAYS correct

I'm an enormous design-nerd, and I want everything in the "Trash-Mob-iverse" to be consistent, so I'd at least like to nail-down a general visual guide for hobbitsies and gnomes, so everybody stays on-model. This is a problem I don't have with dwarves and elves, luckily. Those models are set in stone, makes my job easier

Printed out the half-elves, and I've been working on a pack of familiars. Here's the imp.

Heroes need pets and familiars! I finished up a 3-pack of tiny, magical 2.5D familiars to include with sponsored hero commissions.

4/6 heroes for the next pack are locked-in! I'm really loving these, but is there any chance of getting a version of the female orc/half-orc without the magic crystal arm attachments? That looks like a rather specific spell effect, which really limits the variety of PCs the figure can reasonably represent. Don't worry, I'm going to buy the set either way...I'd just get more use out of it if that one figure had a more conventional re-skin. In any case, looking forward to them!

Hmm, good idea. If I have the time, I'll reskin her arms. Maybe giver her a sword or make her a monk or something.

Are you trying to put me out of the recoloring game? But seriously, those look great. I can't wait to get them. Who could refuse a bagpipe-playing, kilt-wearing dragonborn bard, after all?

Are you trying to put me out of the recoloring game? But seriously, those look great. I can't wait to get them. Who could refuse a bagpipe-playing, kilt-wearing dragonborn bard, after all? Ha! Nah, there will be plenty of monsters to recoler. Heroes are a bit more niche, so I wanted to provide options. Might make them a more attractive purchase to more gamers, and I am a greedy monster. Glad you're excited for these guys, it should be a good set. That Dragonborn was a bard I played a while ago. When I need to fill-out a hero pack, I get super lazy and just make minis of characters my friends and I have rolled. I want to make the heroes unique in their own way. There are a billion minis of the same elf with a bow and dwarf with a hammer. Being inspired by actual characters I've used/seen makes designing the figures more fun.

Instead of a new skin for the half orc, I scrapped the crystals and gave her some wrist bindings, just for you She's a monk, but should be a pretty easy mod-job. I should've included repaints in the last hero pack too. Oh well, I'm kinda making this all up as I go along...
