I'm putting together some equipment to playtest Song of Gold & Darkness scenarios. The rules call for measurement of movement and ranges to be done with a set of three sticks, Short = 50mm (75mm), Medium = 80mm (120mm) and Long = 120mm (180mm). These lengths are for use with 15mm figures. The lengths in parentheses are for use with 25/28mm figures.
I found on the SoB&H Yahoo! group that some people have made triangles to use instead of the sticks, and I decided to do the same. Here's a picture:
I made each side 20mm longer when I was laying out the triangle, and then clipped 10mm off each corner so that the tips wouldn't be so slender and fragile. This turned the figure into an irregular hexagon.
I didn't like the corner where the short and the medium sides came to gether. The angle was so shallow, it made it difficult to distinguish the exact place where the measuring line ended, so I cut a notch in that corner to make it clear.
I cut the "triangle" from a sheet of the pasteboard Diamond Distributor uses when they ship comic books. My local comic retailer has it coming out his ears, and it's really good for reinforcing things where the 110# cardstock is not quite stiff enough.
I used a sheet of Fat Dragon's E-Z Dungeons Deluxe floor tile for the texture. I printed it out on cardstock, then stuck it to the pasteboard triangle with rubber cement and trimmed it to fit. I put the same texture on both sides of the triangle.
After that, I edged it, making the black lines particularly thick on the measuring edges, and labelled the sides.
Have fun!
Steve
P.S. - I used a stone texture since I intend these for use with Song of Gold And Darkness. I will make some with battlefield texture for use outside the dungeon.
