with all the models I created for each of the armies there is always at least one flying unit. So I decided to make a game that incorporates the nuances of ariel combat. there will be lots of flying nasties and lots of cool terrain bits as well as towers that be places with shooten stuff in 'em! to kick it off here is the Dwarven mount the Griffin ! the dwarf rider isn't done yet but that's because there will be three different typs, one that hits hard with a big 'o hammer and one that shoots with a blunder buss and one that is a wytich hunter... why because Dwarves are no lovers of magic and their going to put a stop to that kind of shinanigans! there will be more information as time goes on but for now this is the thing that is in my craw LOL

Impressive! One thing I wonder about, though - it's supposed to be flying, right? Wouldn't a different texture for the base be more appropriate, then? Right now it feels more like a stone plinth. I know it's quite difficult to find a good means of mounting a flying creature. Blue looks weird when you have it close to the ground, transparencies are hard to do ... I don't know ... just wondering. But as I said in the beginning of my post - the griffin is really great!

I don't know ... just wondering. But as I said in the beginning of my post - the griffin is really great! what I have found is that when you make an army like warhammer fantasy battle, or Kings of war, that sort of thing... if they all have the same base texture it really ties the army together and just looks nice on the table. with a quick glance you can tell who belongs to what army. this is important because unlike plastic/metal mini games with paper you can easily create some EPIC events and I have been alpha testing games of SplinterWoods where we had over 200 models each. the battles were Epic but with different bases it was hard to tell what was what at a glance. The Dark elves all have the same base for narrative reasons but I found that when I was playing with them not only did the basses pop but it was super easy to tell what belong to the dark elves. So I have adopted that principle for all my armies. now I know you're saying in your mind , But Aaron, you don't have a dwarf army on here? to which I will say ....... wait for it LOL however, that being said this is the exact same flying base that I use for all my models so if you don't like it feel free to use one of the other ones or, you have my permission to hot rod my stuff however you see fit. so if you want to toss it in Photoshop or GIMP or whatever and change it to blue sky and clouds go for it!

Oh, it's not that I don't like the base, I was just wondering why you chose that texture. Since I'm not a wargamer I wouldn't have thought of using the bases to distinguish between different armies - makes sense, though. By-the-way it wasn't meant as criticism, I just wanted to understand your reasoning behind the decision. Thanks for your explanation.
