Hey WaffleM! So if I wanted to make these guys in scale with Jim's figs in 15mm, what percentage should I increase them? onemonkeybeau I'm making them in 15mm scale already. The medium stands about 40mm tall on a 30mm hex base. The heavy should be about 50-55mm tall (haven't test built yet) and will be on a 40mm base. The light mecha will be about 27-30mm tall on a 20mm base. This is the first time I've designed for this scale, but I'm trying to keep enough detail to print at 200% for 28-30mm games.

And since you're designing these in vectors, scaling's not a problem from that point of view, either.

I had to increase the size 150% to achieve the 30mm height for the light mech. Increasing the medium mech 150% gave me about a 50mm tall mech from feet to the top of the canopy. onemonkeybeau Hey! No fair! These jpgs are just for progress display. I resize them at a size that fits nice on the forum page. I'll have the real images at the correct scale when they are completed. So no jumping the gun. Cheaters never prosper!!!

Heh, heh...
Sorry, I just couldn't wait!
(but now I'll wait for the correctly sized versions)

Here are some more mock-ups including my first medium mech with lasers, a squad of 15mm Marines on a 20mm double hex base, the medium mecha with missile pods and machine guns, and the heavy mecha without any weapons because I don't have them designed yet: Future changes include: -Upping the size of each by one level, so the medium mecha becomes the light mecha, the heavy becomes the medium, and the next mecha will be even bigger than the current heavy mecha. So the sive bases will now be 30mm, 40mm, and 50mm instead of 20, 30, and 40mm. -The laser weapons and machine guns need to be enlarged a bit. They just aren't menacing enough.

Looking SO good WaffleM!
I'm glad you upped the sizes too!

Looking great so far. I can understand why you are dropping the original plans for your light mecha - it would probably look too small compared to the troops. A bigger mecha will look more impressive.
I dont think you need to enlarge the weapons - they look fine (and you probably dont want a GW look with abnormally huge weapons...) But why do you have an external ammo clip for the mecha MGs? I believe that it would be more natural that they get their ammo from some sort of internal feed instead.

OMG... that looks freakin' awesome. Gotta go buy those marines now...(grin)
Scale - Yeah, what was the medium turned out to be exactly what I had in mind for the light... so shifting the scale is going to work out perfect.
Weapons - I think the size is fine too... they look very proportional on the mech. I actually like the clip on the machine gun, it's a unique twist... I wouldn't mind an internally fed option though. The only problem with the current clip version is that it looks a little odd when mounted on the torso instead of the arms.
Seriously, you're doing an outstanding job on these...

Looking great so far. I can understand why you are dropping the original plans for your light mecha - it would probably look too small compared to the troops. A bigger mecha will look more impressive. Thanks! I going for "impressively huge" over "abnormally huge" and currently the machine guns just don't give off that glow of overwhelming firepower. As far as the clips go, I figured the light mecha would have an infantry support role, so a crew can reload them in the field. The medium machine guns will be drum fed and the heavy machine guns will belt fed. The clips also provide a visual clue to separate the mgs from laser weapons. By seeing a clip you can tell the gun fires bullets rather than energy.

OMG... that looks freakin' awesome. Gotta go buy those marines now...(grin) I love Jim's marines! They are one of the reasons I got hooked on paper modeling. And I'm becoming hooked on the 15mm scale too. Tiny figures just go together so quickly! I may design an alternate machine gun for the torso mount, but maybe I can just tweak the existing one...

Very, very impressive looking set there man. Put these together with your flyers and sell them on RPGnow. They are easily better than those other 2d walker sets for Dp9's alternate WW2 game.
Really excellent stuff man.

Fl0yd don't get me started on the crap of the DP9 cardstock KG Walkers - they are a total joke.
These do rock! Like Fl0yd said you could put them together and flog them on RPGNow. I would like to see a number of different "versions" or varients on the same build if it was for sale.
Clever use of 2D/2.5D

These are part of a collaboration between myself, WaffleM, and Aestelon... Once the figures are finished and we have done some preliminary playtesting, I hope to submit the game here for beta-level playtesting. Then I guess at that point we'll discuss what we want to do with it... But I do agree wholeheartedly that these are top-notch, retail-quality models...

The basic design work of the Light, Medium, and Heavy Mecha is complete. I still have to test build the new heavy, and then I need to work on weapon designs. After that comes alternate color schemes for opposing armies.

Those look fantastic.... seeing them side-by-side like that really gives them a sense of scale. That heavy is going to look massive next to the light, which is should considering it has twice the armor value. The extra little details you added to the heavy look really good...

I have most of the weapons finished for the Light and Medium Mecha. Hopefully I'll get some test builds completed this weekend. The heavy machine gun will probably have multiple rotating barrels and a belt feed. The missile launcher will have bigger and more missiles. The heavy laser will just be bigger all around with maybe an additional power supply.

Nice. I like that the missiles have a shield. The variation makes it a very nice set.

After a test print, I may have made the medium weapons too big... As if too big weapons could possibly be a problem! In an off topic/yet related idea: If you are daring enough, check out this example of weapons that have gone too BIG! I love homemade cannons!

Wow...these walkers look really nice next to Jim's figures. Nice job!
I'm a sucker for helicopter-style canopies on mecha, so you get a thumbs-up from me in that regard also.
