I agree, it's one thing to put together something so your can FTP request your stuff from home, but maintaining a home server that is externally routable is not something I'd feel confident doing and I'm a competent computer hobbyist. I don't think that would be a viable solution for us plebeian folk to share files. Is it feasible for people to update sharing links to make the files available on a google drive or from some other service like Mediafire? Someone more skilled than I might even be able to make a script that can scrape the forum archives for the now-broken links, locate and download the associated files, re-host them from a different source and add footers to the associated posts with the updated mirrors. Have your buddy get on it oldschooldm !

I guess that here in Finland we're rather spoilt when it comes to digital connectivity: I pay about EUR 10 per month for my phone connection which gives me unlimited data within Finland. The twisted thing is we have growing queues at the food hand-out places, because so many folk can hardly afford to buy food and pay their utility bills, but the Government makes a big deal about keeping phone and internet prices as low as possible... :/
But, as I said, for hobby level stuff, for me at least, home hosting works, like when your websites rarely gets more than ten visitors a week. But, if I was running a business, I wouldn't rely on a free solution anyway, even one hosted from home.

I quit Photobucket about a month or so back. Now, to the email address I used for that account, I got the following email: I like the wording "3 million ... continue to stay ..." - which says to me a hell of a lot of folk must have upped and left!

I technically never left the site... still have all the old images hosted there, and there's still forum posts all over the place that still have the broken hotlinks, but I'm no longer a Photobucket user as I've found alternative solutions for the images I post now. Wonder if I'm counted in that 3 million, and how many of those 3 million are people who did the same as I did.

At this point they have removed the "Album Download" capability, the only way to recover images ( some of which I don't have anywhere else) is to download them individually, and go through the Ad loading each time I go to a new page. AT this point I am almost ready to just delete everything and delete my account.

We need one more month... This is going to be a real service, not just some home-tilt up. I'm working with a close colleague on a service framework, and this will be a cloud app on that service. Details in 30 days.

It's a stretch, but let us see what we can cook up. It can potentially solve this problem for all images, forever...

It can potentially solve this problem for all images, forever... That sounds like a sales pitch Photobucket would have made for its photo hosting services. :-P I thought the shoebox in my closet would solve my photo storage problem forever, 'til I had an upstairs toilet leak. In any case, I look forward to what you all innovate in this space.

But I *CAN* say that you will be able to retrieve your photos as long as the service is up, forever, with a simple file transfer. This was 100% my idea, and I *know* the challenges of this space and how many people have f*cked it up. Honestly, I'm doing it for you guys, to help. Just, please, do not compare me to to johnny-oheads at Photobucket. There is no excuse.

So, it would appear that Photobucket has removed the option to download an entire album of your images. I assume this is to try to stem the hemorrhaging of users. I found a surprisingly easy way to download all my images using this documented method: Download all your photobucket images in bulk via CLI
The only snag is that you need a bash command shell to enter his commands. There are some free ones out on the web, but if you have Windows 10, there is actually one already included. It's not all that well known, and you have to do a few steps to install it, though: How to Install and Use the Linux Bash Shell on Windows 10I'm not very savvy with a UNIX/bash command line, and I found it surprisingly easy to do. I used this to download all of my images, deleted all my albums and pics, and deleted my account.

I'm not very savvy with a UNIX/bash command line, and I found it surprisingly easy to do. I used this to download all of my images, deleted all my albums and pics, and deleted my account. Ugh! Please don't delete your old account! That makes it really, really hard to fix your links throughout the internet. You've got links everywhere, that are very, very hard to find, and a PITA to fix one by one, since the URLs and file names will have to all change. >>> Our solution may well provide a method that the old links will effectively point to a new location automatically. More technical details will be forthcoming. <<< I did the exact same thing that you did ninevah (except deleting my account), and realized how damn hard fixing it everywhere was going to be, because so much of the URL was lost in the download. SO:Grab your files, for sure - that's just a good idea overall. And if you've only pointed to your PB photos only one place, or only a few of them, it might be worth it hand-repairing all you links may be a great choice. But if you have 100s of links spread over many places, after you grab your files, wait to see what other solutions might emerge soon... No rush to delete an old free account.

Well, my solution didn't come to fruition before Photobucket had decided to offer a somewhat more reasonable plan:
They now have cheaper plans, and apparently a special one for the next few days at $10/month (it was probably mailed to your spam folder - look for it.)

If your solution is cheaper than their reasonable offer... pitch it to the masses.

For $10/month, my photos are restored by photobucket. Still working on my alternative, but it might need to be deployed at a different level...
It took PB more than 24 hours to get my photos appearing again.
