Hey everyone, It's been a while since I posted anything. Been busy with actually playing my campaign and work. Here's a little sample of what I'm working on. It's unfinished, of course. Hopefully you guys can let me know the direction I should take for this project. In another thread, I mentioned I would be working on some draconian adventurers, as I'm in need of some dragon born characters. I'm coming back to bitmap as its less finicky than vector. Though you lose points for neatness. The rough look seems to blend better with my other paper miniatures.

IMHO horns or fins on his head would make him look "draconic" rather than just "reptilian."
For what it is worth: the sword on the back thing was almost never done historically. It is very slow and awkward to draw from back there and your back is a better place to carry bigger things. Like armour. Of course "dragonborn" and "historically" . . . so suit yourself.

Not to sound crass, but does pose practicality really matter as long as the figure looks bad-ass? Also, I remember a few pathfinder icons carrying impractical oversized swords. But I digress, This is kind of a blueprint layer/sketch that I'm going to re-use as a base for multiple figures/classes. The hands are empty for now as I'm planning on making interchangeable weapons/instruments. For example, who knows what this draconian is wielding? He might be a heavily armored bard pulling out his trusty lute. Or He could be pulling the shield off his back. Standard I'm-too-lazy-to-make-a-new-figure-for-every-possible-class-subspecies-gender process. I'm a bit too early in the process to make promises, but I just wanted something to show for all these months of inactivity from this great hobby of ours.

TL:DR whatever makes you happy
I prefaced my remarks with "IMHO" and "for what it is worth" and ended with "suit yourself" precisely because I knew the "objections" I was making were largely a matter of personal taste.
Feel free to ignore me (most do.)
To let you know where I am coming from: I game with historical re-enactors, HEMA practitioners, stage-fighters and weapon makers. When we see an impractical pose we don't see "bad-ass" we see "stupid guy soon to die." Again, I know we are niche, suit yourself.
Re: pathfinder: One of my group acting as game master bought the pathfinder standees for one adventure out of convenience. Nearly every time a new one was placed on the table there was at least a five minute diversion while we all chimed in on the number of ways it made no sense.
We are not totally alone, youtubers like Lindybeige, Schola Gladitoria, Shadiversity, Skallagrim etc spend at least some of there time critiquing the historical/practical aspects of movies and TV shows (LOTR, GOT etc.) as well as just trying to explode myths and popular misconceptions about history in general.

Here's an idea. How would you feel if it was the non dominant hand reaching back? Perhaps to grab his shield? Some minor updates

Maybe it's left handed or ambidextrous?

I really like the "minor update," especially the vest. This pose might also be of reaching for an arrow from a back quiver if you put a bow in the other hand. But then, for most archers, they would be reaching with their dominant hand...

Thanks for all the critiques guys, especially cowboyleland . As you can tell, I'm not a big research guy. I'm just winging it guys . I'm pretty much making this for you guys so more input is always appreciated. As soon as I'm done with these, I will begin working on a set of NPC minis as suggested by BlackCat13 in another thread.

Hey All! It's been a while, I've been away for a while. Dealing with some personal stuff. Took a break from all IRL games during that time (spent whatever roleplaying I did on roll20). Got back into RPGing "full time" less than a month ago, realized (not too much later) that I've had a hoard of unfinished projects and have decided to pursue the hobby again. More gusto this time! The bad news is that I'm scrapping most, if not all, previous projects and starting from a clean slate. Anyway, Here's something I've been working on to whet your appetites.

Hello to anyone still following this thread! Just a few updates, it's been a while since I've posted anything. Been working on a patreon that you can find here (among many other projects) if you're interested. Meanwhile, I completed my set of Dra(conian?conic?)gon(kin?)born barbarians.
And as a bonus I finished a little something something too. Next, I'm planning on creating a set of Mimics with either interactive features or mimics that occur in other forms, seeing as there aren't many mimic miniatures apart from the ever present "chest mimic". Cheers! Compiled and moved to Member Downloads section; onemonk.com/guest-dl.html

Just a little current Work-In-Progress of an Elven Princess/Queen. Have yet to decide. Trying to leave her clothes as plain as possible to suggest the hermetic lifestyle of elves (as a populace). However, I'm wondering about whether she should be wearing jewelry like the high elves of Tolkien mythology, or leave her without; to appear more like the elves in pre-Tolkien European mythology. Her armor is also something I'm feeling doubtful about. While the purpose of her armor is just to make the figure more table friendly, I feel the armor gives her a more 'warrior princess' vibe. I was also thinking of leaving her barefoot, as that seems to be a thing in a campaign of mine. Would love to know how you guys feel about this design. Or any suggestions.

Well, it all does depend on context. It would make perfect sense to have a queen/princess figure without armour for "in the throneroom" situations. On the other hand, armour for the battlefield, tournament and adventuring makes perfect sense. Likewise jewelry is a cultural thing and fictional races can have near infinite variations in culture. I like my elves to lean to living nature rather than manufacture, so I often think of them with flowers or foliage rather than metal for crowns and bracelets etc. But I bet I am weird and catering to me won't sell you a lot of figures. The solution here is to draw what you want. Pick one or keep doing variations until you want to draw something else. Afterthought edit: For the kind of iconic characters that people often use for player characters in RPGs (like a female elf), it MIGHT be a cool idea to do multiple variations on one character to cover most gaming situations, ie: 1) totally armed for battle, 2) all dressed up for talking to the king/lord, maybe 3) casual clothes/lightly armed for being in town/climbing/shipboard (or just low level) and then a mounted version of some or all of those. I don't know if you have a workflow that would let you re-use parts to do this easily/efficiently and I don't know if it would sell, but it is an idea.

Exactly. Of course, don't discount Mithril in the mix

I was just finishing up a rough-mostly-finished design when I came back to see if there were any suggestions. cowboyleland I did think of having alternate outfits for her as you've described. Given the input, I think I'll go ahead with that idea. As for jewelry, I'll probably give her one giant gem somewhere on her person and pass it off as an arcane artifact Haha! Vermin King If it looks too clunky, it's probably Mithril.
