So a few weeks ago while trying to avoid something or other I came across the file for my Jan 2017 hoard submission. I realised the cape wasn't very comic book so I googled some images and basically pasted on an actual batman cape I liked. I wasn't going to share that because I thought probably no-one is interested but then a few nights ago I watched Michael Cthulhu build a battleaxe on youtube and in the last shot of the video the axe reminded me of a bat. I asked myself why I hadn't thought of that before and went back and gave the Caped Crusader a bat battleaxe. I have a few more ideas to make him look both more medieval and more like batman, but I really don't have a good reason to be working on him so I will share this and consider it a work in (probably very slow) progress.

I totally approve of this project and look forward to the completion of it.

If you plan to make more figures, every medieval village needs a good joker...

If you plan to make more figures, every medieval village needs a good joker... Court jester Joker? He doubles as a piper, a jolly good fella. Just a few days ago, he volunteered to take the village kids to see the mountain side, even with us not paying him the stage fees for the last year. Speaking of it, they are gone for more than a week...

Shouldn't that just be a BATtleaxe? Ker-Blam I actually wrote it that way the fist time. Your "Ker-Blam" is a nice touch.

Perhaps we need a Medieval Super-Heroes Horde?

Sounds good. Which reminds me that it's about time to start planning Hoards for next year

Sorry, I kinda led us off topic. I better start a 2018 Hoard ideas thread. Sorry about that cowboyleland

No apologies needed, I think this is a silly thread anyway! And I like friendly banter.

Time for an update. Our Dark (Age) Knight now has a utility belt and grappling hook. I also tried to give him a more medieval logo but you can't really see it at 28mm scale. I should probably build him a longboat and put it on the sail.

hahahha! oh man...medieval batman! what a nice idea! So if i understand well, did you create this mini using differents images and mixing all together? Liked so much, and i saw a kobolds minis you made maybe last year...and i liked them so much. Can i ask how do you create the minis? i mean, is everything made on computer or you first design in paper?
regards

Yes, all of my "work" is mash-ups or modifications of other peoples work. I used to draw OK back in high school, but that is more than 30 years ago now. When I stumbled across paper models in 2008 someone here recommended GIMP and I have been messing around with it ever since. Edit: That answers your question. What follows is rambling and probably too much detail, but if you have nothing better to do... The original idea for this figure came, as I recall, from Vermin King. I started by googling a "black and white" image search for "vikings" or something and found this: qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-9fdda4a0b851299e569957aee0eb2157. I gave him a visor and horns by using the blur tool on the helmet. I couldn't believe how easy that was. I drew spikes on his bracers and then I coloured him using "The Hackbarth Process.(http://cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/4774/hackbarth-process) I pasted on a batman logo and drew a cape and that became the version you find the the January 2017 hoard. For some reason I decided to start working on him again and that lead to the start of this thread. The latest changes are that I drew belt pouches and a rope. The grappling hook is actually his axe shrunk down a bit and rotated. I am still not happy with the knot work on the logo so I will probably get back to that if a more exciting project doesn't come along soon.

So a crazy thing happened. My Thursday night group started playing the TORG reboot. It is set in "near now" Earth that gets invaded by parallel dimensions that include cyber-demons, a pulp era pharo, dinosaur lizard men etc. The GM said all the players should find a way for their charactes to be involved in play testing a MM0RPG that seems to predict the actual events of the dimensional invasions. Since the setting is a mash-up I decided I would use my medieval mash-up Batman. My character is Wayne Bruce (I know that is a cop-out) and he is a cos-player who takes it so seriously he has become an accomplished martial artist just to play Batman more convincingly. He became "famous" when he invented the BATtleaxe as a part of the medieval mash up character depicted above. The thing is the GM gave us quite a bit of latitude and modern tactical armour has much better game stats than maille so I feel I need to update my character. Here he is: Largely based on this image media.comicbook.com/2016/09/batman-arkham-knight-costume-199838.jpg I shrunk down the legs from the original because I thought they looked strange, added the gold chest logo and (of course) added an updated tactical version of "my" trademark weapon. The back will be all cape, so that will be easy. Then I will add him to the Elderthing Investigators and do his outline and tab when I do them.

Immersive Archeology. I just read Timelines again. Sounds like Wayne Bruce is much like Andre Marek in that he wants to experience life as the character he portrays. And Arkham is an invention of Lovecraft.

I had forgotten the Lovecraft connection. Maybe I will try to get the feet on a more even line so he tabs better and and include him in the hoard too. He is also about 0.2 mm to high at the eye, but I will correct that as I do the feet/legs (again).

Actually I think I can afford to shrink the front leg a bit more and enlarge the rear one slightly. I hope it won't look too odd.
