I am in the process of making fences and wanted to check in with you guys and ask you if there are any special gaming needs I should consider? These are some sketches. I thought of making two heights. 15mm and 30mm. The lower one being garden fences and the high one for cattle. I made the above versions 3" in length. Are there any special lengths to do? What about openings? Need special gates or just a whole in the fence? Would love to hear what you think about this!

I'd say 6"length as well. 3" gates, with or without the overhead diagonal to the high board in the pinion corner. Maybe some 1" people gates - which would need a 2" fence version as well to go with it.
I presume that you are going to texture it as wood. Plain off-yellow/tan? White? Barn Red?

I was just thinking about plain wood. But of course some painted versions should be easy to do.
What is the overhead diagonal, high board and pinion corner? I am not getting anything that makes sense when I google it :-)

A half-painted white fence with a Tom Sawyer standee might be nice...

I am not getting anything that makes sense when I google it :-) The High board is the top board of the gate. the pinion corner is the side of the gate that swings open. the overhead diagonal runs from the top corner of the opening side to the bottom corner on the hinge side.

Thanks Tom!!! That clears it up. I got weird TV set and mechanical pics when I googled "pinion corner" :-)

The first thought that came to mind was to include some broken down fences like these ones from Gettysburg;

Are those the ones they call snake fences? That would be VERY useful for historical 19th century games.

What you guys provided as an example of a diagonal is certainly a good option, but what I was actually thinking about was where, to prevent the gate from sagging, a board high straight above the pin-end of the gate with a board going diagonally downward to the top corner of the swinging end - often used for long gates.

I think greypilgrim means "bottom" corner of the swing end. This creates the effect of berneart76 's diagram but the diagonal board is being stretched rather than compressed. It is indeed used often in long gates 'round these parts.

We have 'X' supports 'round these parts

it's been used either way - the concept of the triangle in the gate's construction makes it sturdier.

Pictures please! Now I am confused I think I have many options now. Didn't think that fences could be of such interest!

I have started to work on some generic fences now that this months Patreon is out. Planning to do a couple of different lengths with variations, some broken ones and some gates in this style. And then some other styles too!

More fences done. Still need a broken down gate though to complete the page. Then a couple of 1", 3" and 6" gates to do

Here's my broken gate ... Now I need to build some and see how they look on the table!

Some build pics ... Regular fence with bases, front ... ... and back. Irregular elements and broken gate with standees, front ... ... and back. I made the gate element separate so you can open and close the gate as needed. And finally some broken fences. For placing them with bases I have a small 5mm area (as with the paper minis) on the bottom so you can insert them into the base. If you don't want that you can either cut it of or glue some grass flock or similar and use the standees. They are a little tedious to paint as I have to create and place each element manually esp for the irregular and broken verisons, but I think the final result is worth it! With the color modifiers this should make some very versatile pieces. I think I will make the 6" versions next. Then you will have at least short and long elements. Maybe later I make some 3" versions too.

I have completed the missing parts (including a new broken gate and a large gate that somehow came into being).
More pics on my patreon! Now I need to clean up the files and get it all release ready :-)

lightning graciously granted me early access so I could do a test build.... Here's the results. Pretty awesome - only some minor feedback, so the final set will be even awesomer. Consider joining the patreon.
