So, it was actually 2.5D that got me into paper modeling for gaming. Ever since I started playing around with that I wished I could do pop ups. Ten years ago there was no info on the internet and I never seriously checked the library. A little while ago I checked youtube again and there was an excellent set of tutorials on what is called "The Pop Up Channel" (go figure) www.youtube.com/channel/UCx2M2bGHtXBszG6tuR_NIbQ/videos) So today, while it was cold when it wasn't raining, I came up with this:
As you can see: a 3" base, just under 6" tall, folds flat to fit in a business envelope. You could definitely get two into an envelope, maybe three or four. I don't think it is/will be too fiddly to assemble. Do you guys think I should pursue this?

I am working on this. I will share what I come up with. We all know that fold-flat is convenient for storage. Pop-up makes it convenient to set up. It does not have the magic of a pop-up book because the base doesn't hide much of the figure so there isn't as big a reveal.
On the other hand, maybe it's the herd that is crazy.

I got sidetracked tonight on an old Allers Familie Journal piece. A pop-up doll house. Basically four rooms with doors in between the rooms. Sounds like the perfect solution to supply a floorplan to fit into an exterior wall sleeve.
A pop-up figure is totally different. Best to think of it as a fold-flat figure. I think you are on the right track
There are no strangers in this world, only people I haven't embarrassed ... yet!

I took my car in to the dealer for its annual and had to wait for a few hours so I managed to do some tracing of a scan as well as starting something for the May Hoard. It might be the weekend before I get back to it. Is this weekend Mother's Day?
On the other hand, maybe it's the herd that is crazy.
Yes, Mothers Day and the Dayton, Ohio Paper Modelers Convention
What kind of HORRIBLE people would schedule a CONVENTION on MOTHER'S DAY?
EDIT: I figured it out. Clones. Never mind.

Hi! I'm Harry, and I am a hobby addict. I prefer papercraft scenery to use alongside my 28mm metal and plastic miniatures, and am not afraid to mix and match my hobby media. I game sci-fi, fantasy, and historical (including Ancients, Dark Ages, Renaissance, and World War II Pacific Theater (oddly in both 28mm infantry and 3mm aircraft.)
oldschooldm: Yup. More power to anyone who tries it. It will only whet the appetite for people who want paper minis that were designed to be paper minis. :-) Fronts and Backs FOREVER! :-) [... it's bait, don't bite it! ... ]

cowboyleland: Now I have seen it. It doesn't advance our hobby, but anyone with half a brain who wanted 2nd rate figures could easily figure this out for themselves so I guess he isn't doing any harm.

berneart76: well, this is fun, (not) transferring all my papercrafting sets into the cloud. The stuff I got from DriveTrhruRPG was simple with their library desktop app,but my other stuff, sometimes with multiple duplicate copies is entertaining.

berneart76: Vermin King I usually use a mix of drybrush/watercolor/photocopy and occasionally posterizing at different levels of opacity.

berneart76: Vermin King, that's similar to the enhancing that I do on my texturing. I've found that sometimes I need to scale up or scale down the image (usually by 50 or 25 percent down or 200 or 300 percent up) to make get the enhancements to look "right"

Vermin King: On the zebras, I did multiple enhancements and cartoon filters and used them at 100%, and they still didn't look that different than the photos

Vermin King: When I make a figure or terrain piece based on a photo, I clean it up and align things to look 'right', then I create another layer and do enhancing and cartoonizing on it. I then adjust opacity over the photo image until it looks good. On the zebras,

Vermin King: berneart76, do you mean giving them green or purple manes and tails? and a few piercings? maybe a cig hanging out of their mouths?
Feb 26, 2019 12:24:18 GMT -9
Vermin King: cartoonizing a zebra doesn't do much

Vermin King: And due to the snow, I'm off tonight. I am going to miss the cash on the paycheck, but I'm glad they want their employees to be safe

ignatious: Actually I was referring to the two previous posts. I was trying to be subtle in order to sublimate the crassness. Read them again, but in Mel Brooks voice while he is winking, and nudging the person to his right.

Vermin King: Sure. Euphemize us
Feb 8, 2019 18:40:48 GMT -9
ignatious: would anyone care for a euphemism?

cowboyleland: We hadn't had snow for a few days. Last night the plow came down my street and did nothing but fill every ones driveways back in. Just for practice, I guess.

Vermin King: In KC we had an ice storm (with thunder sleet) the other night. Left things drivable, but last night the plow came down my street. They took all the rough edges off. Might as well have ran a Zamboni...
