Well, here we are. Many of you know me, but there are a fair few new members here now, so let me welcome each and every one of you to the group.
I was into paper models in a huge way from around 2007 until around 2014. I had been a miniature modeler and painter from about 1982 until around 2007 but at that time my eyes were having huge issues and going bad quickly. My doctor told me I needed to stop painting the minis. (15mm to 28mm in all genres) I was painting on my days off sometimes 14 hours a day. I loved it but it took its toll over a long period of time.
So it was then that I discovered PaperWorlds and all was good. I loved modeling and paper models were fun too. Until Paperworlds went dark. From those ashes Paper Make It arose, and then a little later Jim Hartman started One Monk. There was much rejoicing!! So I dove in head first and amassed a huge amount of paper stuff of all kinds.
Then Reaper minis had a phenomenal kickstarter with Bones figures and I went all in. This slip back into minis turned into an avalanche and I now have a huge collection again of non paper minis in my game room taking up space. Two weeks ago I went to the doctor because of intense migraines over a period of about six months. He tested alot of stuff and everything led to my eyes. Yep, I was having eye trouble again and it was worse than before.
I was only painting about 6 hours a day before or after work but it was enough. I can only paint about twenty minutes now or I end up with a whopper of a migraine. So, after around 36 years give or take of painting minis I am giving it up. Twenty minutes isn't enough time to do much on a figure and i don't have the patience to stop and start and stop, so I'm back into paper minis full time again.
Don't take that the wrong way. I LOVE paper minis and terrain and have been steadily adding to my collection over the last few years even if I didn't build any. I fully believe that well built paper minis look every bit as good as non paper minis. It was just that my thing for so long was non paper minis and I didn't know how to quit them. Well here we are and it sucks getting old, but I'm still standing and gaming!
Thanks for listening to my ramblings. I will be starting to contribute more and more as we go along. I can't draw worth beans but I love to do mods and recolors so I'll be doing tons of those. The first up will be the rebirth and next set in my "Canal Rats" Mars Base series of mods and recolors based on the Terra Force minis from Mayhem in Paper and the Military craft from Genet Models. The first set is available as bonus content in the Terra Force basic troops set from Mayhem in Paper here: Basic Troops I will be chronicling things here and on my paper blog Distant Paper Vistas so come along for the ride. More to come soon and until next time, watch the papercuts!
