Hi guys,
after the gunboat I have been working on a Wako Pirate ship, as I have receive many requests for it from my Feudal Japan friends.
Here are a couple of pics showing the process.
First I made a rendering and sketched over it. I am basing this on a pic I found in the Osprey books on Asian ships. It seems the inspiration for many builds I have seen.
This was the first white test build, checking the geometry. I built it in "half-scale" (for 15mm minis) as all parts fit on a page at this size.
And today I have finished the first textured test build (at 30mm scale). I needed to double to part sizes and split some in half for the layout to fit on the page temple format. It is an "easy" build, where I didn't cut out all the spaces between frames. Went a little quicker to build, but actually it doesn't look so bad. Have to make a comparison when I do the final build.
I really like the layout of the ship now that is sitting in front of me on the table. Lots of space for gaming action.
Now I need to work on the missing mast and sail (which I will reuse from the Samurai Fleet set) and then start the weathering.
Chris

During one of those pseudo-historical programs on PBS, they had described early Far East naval battles as land battles on the water. They hadn't perfected naval tactics, so each side would lash their boats together and fight like they were on land

In the office where I worked we loved it and we all played it. But, we couldn't fly the planes without crashing, so we drove the planes on ground exploring the 3D landscapes and airports they modeled within

Starting the weathered build ... and cutting out gazillion of rectangles out of the railings! Thankfully with the auto-cuter :-)
