The tales of winged serpents and the Egyptian artwork suggests them as more "normal" than giant sized, and from Herodotus, possibly occurring in flocks rather than as individuals, but that may depend on how you perceive these being used, I think. Interestingly on the winged serpents from Arabia concept, there are also biblical references to the inimical saraph in the Sinai (Negev Desert) and the Arabian Desert east of Edom, a term which is commonly translated as "flying fiery serpents" (Isaiah 30:6 & Numbers 21:6-9 respectively). Plus the Assyrian King Esarhaddon, describing his successful march to and attack against Egypt in 671 BCE, mentions "yellow snakes spreading wings" in either the Arabian or Negev Desert as well ( this PDF paper by Karen Radner is freely available in a couple of places online, which includes the original transliterated text, a translation and some discussion of the entire record that survives of this campaign). So it looks as if there was a long-standing belief in genuine flying serpents in Arabia overall, as well as the Egyptian imagery suggesting them as important generally there too.

That's interesting. I heard a reference to that once in a show about life in the Arabian Desert, and the documentarian believed that the phrase referred to the spreading hoods on the cobras. But then again...

Yeah, although the passage in the original clay tablet is damaged (so the cuneiform sign for snake has had to be restored modernly) careful investigations by Karen Radner have confirmed this must have been what was written originally, from what survives. The interpretation of just what "yellow snakes spreading wings" were, is certainly open to interpretations beyond flying serpents. The line before in the text mentions deadly two-headed snakes in the desert as well, so I wonder what the commentator would have made of those

Wish I had the time to make a egyptian ship now :-) Chris I was watching several Egypt Uncovered episodes last night. I was working out in my head how to do a barque. Any temple would have a ceremonial barque. The barques were also used for hunting, hauling and in battle. And there are many wall carvings showing them. Usually only side views, though. But there are photos of the miniatures that were buried with Tut, priests and nobles. They also uncovered a full-sized barque near the pyramids that they are trying to rebuild

I just received a new book "The Evolution of the Wooden Ship" by Basil Greenhill and it too has images of these vessels. So maybe it will happen :-)

Regarding the vultures, I would like to have seen a couple that were not flying in the mix.
Nice work on both sets

Slightly puzzled by the ancient Egyptian skeleton cavalry, given the ancient Egyptians had no cavalry, probably because they had no horses large and strong enough to be ridden - hence they used them to pull chariots instead. Interesting minis, all the same. I'd agree with Vermin King about the vultures; some not-flying ones would have been useful too.

I really like your lion-man and the barbarians are cool to. The Rattogre is a good idea. I would give him some fore claws we can see from the front view. Nice work!

I am working up to watching One Piece, one piece at a time. I want a Luffy hat to wear this summer. I'm not sure if you should finish it just for me, I'm not quite there yet.
