Hi there! I am putting together a plethora of standees for Operation: Last Train and I have decided to use Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars as my Grenadiers. Except they are all white, and I would like them to be a snazzy army green like the power armor soldiers in the Sergeant Major by Nate Augustyn download in the Guest Artist section. The problem is that I am absolute crap at coloring from a white to a color for some reason. Is there anyone who would please recolor the Stormtroopers (not the Clone Troopers unless you really want to) from the May 2016 Robots vs. Power Armor Forum Hoard to that snazzy army green referenced above? Pretty please? With sugar on top? Thank you for any and all help with this.

Which stormtroopers are you using? I am using the following Stormtroopers from the May 2016 Forum Hoard: Ideally, I would like the color to be similar to these green Sargeant Major figures, but with less blended shading: The problem is, when I try to do it, it turns out like this: Which is just awful.

If you completely lose the shading, it will look like that. I think you need to create a texture you can live with, and past that into the white areas
Also, note how Nate used gray areas to break it up. Even with his shading, the green would be overwhelming without breaking it up.
I might be able to play with this after I get done mowing after work

I'm using GIMP: When I selected the white areas, I increased the select area by 1 pixel, to include the antialiased border between the white fill and the edge of the figure. Then, I set the background colour to that shade of green. I selected the blank area between all the figures, inverted the selection and shrunk the selected area. I then deleted it, to give me green silhouettes. I then pasted the cut-out outlines back onto the main image. It doesn't have any of the yellow green highlighting of the Halo Figures, so it looks a bit flat, but it only took less than five minutes to do. Adding highlights would take a bit longer, probably using drop shadow and what-not... (I did the whole sheet like this, in one go, if you'd like it)

That's where I messed up over lunch. I selected the outline and grew by a pixel and started a new sheet, then got the fold lines, shadows, etc. then went back and deleted the artifacts. I went the long way

I did the whole sheet like this, in one go, if you'd like it I would love it. That is exactly what I was trying to achieve. I'm not big on gradient shading, I prefer the block colors like okumarts and chiefasaur do. So what you have done is just about perfect for me. Thank you so much!

I'm on the bus, going to work at the moment. If you can hang on about 10 hours, I'll upload the complete sheet when I'm home. Unless someone else in different timezone does it sooner ;-)

Here's the one I did with a contrasting gray and contrasting green Went back and tried to do it the way alloydog described, but I still have a lot of artifacts ... Since you are getting his file, I probably won't try to fix mine

I took a close look at it, and at least I have a better idea of what these "artifacts" you write about are.

I actually did a test. Most of these are from the anti-aliasing. Click Paint on one along the edge and most of them disappear, get painted. I can probably clean it up in 20 minutes or so.
My main question is whether my contrasting colors makes it more or less attractive to your eye

Did you want any of those on the second page?
The Clone Troopers?

Did you want any of those on the second page? The Clone Troopers? No thank you. The ten are more than enough to have a full team of six, and convert the seven specialists from the existing poses as well. Although giving a laser cannon or grenade launcher to a Grenadier is a bit of a waste of their close combat abilities, so maybe just five specialists o.0
