For this month's hoard, I'm putting together an HQ for a bunch of junior detectives. Being a lifelong fan of The Three Investigators, I chose to create something along the line of their hidden old trailer they refurnished as their office/lab/darkroom. Since the stories about the three kids from Rocky Beach, Ca. are originally set in the mid to late 1960's, I think that the trailer most available during that time frame would have been an Airstream. So, this will be the base for my design. However, since I still have no idea about creating curves in more than one direction at once, the final HQ for our meddling kids will look a little bit different. So far, I have the furnishing, the most helpful in hiding junkyard piles, and our three young detectives ready. As with most of my sets, the miniatures are mods of minis by okumarts, coming from his Radical Kids set. The piles of stuff hiding the trailer were made with free clipart from Dreamstime.com.

I might be able to help you on those curves. When I was looking at doing the steps for the double-decker coach, I saw several buses with the curved shape. Might take a couple days for me to find them again, but I think you can get pretty close to the shape by seeing how they did it on the buses. You might even be able to steal the shapes out of the templates.
Got back from the out-of-town funeral early ( I was told there was a dinner afterwards for family and close friends, but there wasn't one ). But I figure I used a personal day for the day, so the rest of my day is personal, so I am going to work on the trailer landing gear and try to find suitable bus roofs. I know there are some airstream models out there, but I think they simplified them with straight edges, not curved

Whohoo, shiny! I'll see what I can do with that. Basically, all Airstreams are the same and just stretched lengthwise. The trailer in question would mostly be like this one, just with an additional meter or two at each end and a second pair of wheels... Thanks for the links.

On an old list, the airstream is listed as one of the available models for free when you register at www.fiddlersgreen.net. I don't know if it is still on the list, but if you haven't picked up your three free models by registering on the site, you might want to check them out

Some more progress... Actually, I'm almost done. Only the front and rear end pieces, two steps to get into the trailer, the original "door" entrance from the Three Investigators stories, and... the roof. I won't lie, I have more than just a little respect for the roof. I still have to figure out the correct measurements of the roof piece. And before that, I'll have to figure out how to figure them out... Anyway, here's a side wall of the trailer. Isn't that a lovely 70's wallpaper?

Yeah, that roof has had me revisiting the file. I know the FG models, for the most part, were originally hand-drawn and used math to figure out curves, but this surely had to use a computer to figure out.

I know the FG models, for the most part, were originally hand-drawn and used math to figure out curves, but this surely had to use a computer to figure out. I settled now for blowing up the preview a little bit, printing and building it. Then I'll use a ruler to figure out the before and after numbers. Once I know that stuff, I should be able to calculate the roof that I need...

Okay, I give up on that curved roof! I thought, I had figured it out, but then in the testbuild, it did not fit at all... So, I'll finish up this project with a flat rooftop. Should I ever find out how to fix that, I'll put an update here in this thread. However, since I don't want to let you fine folks down, I will give you aside the Three Investigators' HQ a more generic approach for junior detectives to hide out: The Shed!

Would you want to send me your files and see if I can tweak it?

Would you want to send me your files and see if I can tweak it? I'll first finish up the flat roof, and then re-organize the PSD, so someone else can make sense out of it. What file type would you need to work on it?

I prefer to work with png's.
Besides the HQ, I also had a squirrelly vision of an Onager Airstream trailer ...

Would this bus roof give you a good approximation of the Airstream roof? The entire bus would be ideal for a version 2 reskin of the trailer. It says nowhere that it could not be a mobile camping home... However, time is running out for me, since I have to hand in my tax forms by the end of the month, too. And to top all that, my parents-in-law will pay us a visit on Wendesday and Thursday, cutting the remaining time even shorter... I'll finish what I have for the hoard, and update the project later...
