I'll do a test build of the Moon Hopper/Shuttle play set this upcoming weekend, taking pics along the process for the instructions. I just hope that I can still figure out how to build everything, since designing some of the parts dates back to last year's Papercuts...

Found some photos that will help with the bottom of the Ascent Stage and the top of the Descent Stage

Okay, I retextured the bottom of the Ascent Stage and started work on the rocket nozzle, but tonight I'm having second thoughts. This was going to be a fairly simple Lunar Excursion Module. Yes, I can probably get the thing done as two separate models that fit together, but the nozzle on the Ascent Stage is recessed into the module and fits into a recess in the Descent Stage. I could design it so that the top will only have the portion of the nozzle that extends outside the recess, and then have a cup in the top of the bottom stage that it fits in. I now think that this is unnecessary complexity that doesn't need to be there. So, I'm going back to doing the two sections as one unit. I'm not going to delete the textures on the bottom Ascent Stage, but I will leave the two models that fit together part to someone who feels like they need it.

Got a bit done on the octagonal box for the Descent Stage last night after a 10-hour shift, only when I went to texturing, I somehow got some of the short faces off. I'll sort it out this afternoon. Legs and ladder will be on a separate page, I think

Well some progress, but I'd hoped to get the legs done, too

When I started working on the legs, I started questioning how to handle it. Where this page stands, the final closing octagon part at the top of the page is actually the bottom. I am thinking of having that top octagon as the top of the descent stage. I could have the triangular tops of the legs coming off this part, then the legs would glue under the triangle and to the side of the box underneath. It really is a case of six one way and half a dozen the other. I also don't like my foil on top and underneath. I think it would look better monochrome. I'm also going to go back to the page 1 and do monochrome rather than photo-authentic. Authenticity sometimes doesn't look as good as conceptual

Okay, the smallest version of the Lunar Modular Transport (LMT), the MoonHopper, is done. It consists of the cockpit module, the airlock module, and the drive module. All modules have removable doors, and you can take the floors out to technically fold the walls flat. However, several pieces are glued directly to the floor of the cockpit and the rear wall of the drive module, so the flattened parts are still somewhat bulky... This is a scenery playset for RPGs and tabletop games, not a scale model of parts of a Space: 1999 Eagle. However, even though I put it in my Space: 1995 (a prequel) line, the modules are as generic as possible, so it could be used in any scifi game possible. Tomorrow, I'll print the crew module, to turn the MoonHopper into a MoonShuttle. Since my wife and I are going on a short vacation on Wednesday, and next week's Thursday will be the start of CCXP (Cologne Comic XPerience, a new convention that includes the former RolePlay Convention Germany) where I run several Star Trek and Private Eye games, I won't be able to do lengthy instructions with pictures and such. So, I will only have written instructions with these modules. I also won't be able to do the landing gear, so I will save that for when I finally finish and post the large Transport Module... And now some pics.

A bit more progress. I think this leaves me with just the ladder and hatch platform. Might even get it done tonight, but I should wait. Probably should make the 'feet' fold-overs, in case someone should want to hang it up, or if it got knocked over

The ladder was more work than I thought it would be, but there's still room for a couple astronauts

Tweaked the legs a bit to reduce the fold-over line and worked on Armstrong getting ready for his small step

Confident enough in the design that I printed this off on 'Best' setting on 110 lb cardstock

So, I'm back from my mini vacation to Amsterdam and Groningen in the Netherlands. Had a really good time and the best possible weather (I'm totally burned in the face, neck, and on the arms), and now need to prepare for the CCXP comics and RPG convention that will start on Thursday. This means, that I might need a few days past next weekend to get the last module of the shuttle finished. I hope, you can keep this hoard open for about a week into July...

We don't even have Kids posted yet, so I don't think that will be a problem

That's pretty funny. I was literally looking at this at four in the morning when I couldn't sleep, thinking to myself "I kinda want to build this". Oh yeah, that is now on my list of things to do!

At one time I wanted to do it, replacing Tommygun's gondola with squirmydad's Steam Launch, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/8366/steampunkish-ideaWith the four inches of rain in 30 hours this weekend, I have water in my basement again. I doubt I am going to have time to tweak the diorama base that I planned to do. Of course, you can use Gimp or whatever to remove all the black and glue a piece of black paper behind the horizon

Legs need to be more vertical, will try to work on that over lunch
Printed off at lunch, but things have been odd tonight. Probably won't have a chance to work on it again until Sunday, but it should work. The connection points to the main body are the same. Bottoms of the legs adjusted to still be parallel to the top. We'll see Sunday night

Oh crap! I forgot to post my entry! These are the Star Fleet Grannies, from okumarts' art but kitbashed by Yours Truly. I meant to do four more Redshirt Grannies, but I got sidetracked by fantasy Octopod conversions...

Cockpit Module Airlock Module Crew Module (file includes a second bunk bed) Drive Module Lunar Shuttle The modules are done, now I just have to cleanup the files a little bit and insert the instructions. However, since I'm flooded with RL work, I think I will need till the end of the week to finish this...
