Well after a few years of tweaking and reworking and trashing more designs then I can think of I now have the following mesh almost ready to be unfolded. Here is a picture of what I have so far with a 30mm figure for scale. Finished size is about 45mm tall, the smallest facing on this i 4mm so it is still fold-able but you might need tweezers. This is the light mech chassis and I will be doing a medium and heavy setups as well. The weapons are somewhat modular in that they are 4mmx4mmx8mm bricks that have individual textures on them representing what type of weapon they are. These can be placed anywhere on the mechs so that you can have them fit into what ever game you are playing. As development progresses I might need a test builder other then myself to see if I need to tweak anything. Let me know what you guys think. Slick

Awesome Job on the modifications. I think its the image and camo I chose that makes the groin armor stand out a little but with offering 16 colors there is always going to be one or two that look wonkie. The reason I picked that was for the pattern (its close to a Russian camo pattern) and it fit with the eastern weapons. As to a shadow under the weapon arm. I had one but several of my weapons are bullpup and when the mag hung into the shadow it just made the figures look weird.

Jim has given me permission to list my releases in my boards here in his forums as well as on my site so here is my first set of modern troops with assault rifles. This is the first of 4 sets with assault rifles. you get 10 figure poses, 16 color options and 2 weapons. I have around 50 different guns that I have vectored up so look forward to some more modern figures with a nice assortment of weapons. www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=79840Thanks, Slick

Nice looking game! I bet it was fun. I agree with squiermydad though. I think the starting point for the wretched gave them a huge advantage from the start that forced the humans into closer range then the normally would want to be. Still it looked like a great game!

Here we have the N.C.C. Power Armor all finished and released. Price is $3.95 and you can find more information and a link to purchase it at www.slicksminiatures.com/This is my last model that I will be listing on Jim's site for all future releases please visit the site above. I will still be here working on some collaborative works with Jim and I'll pop in the occasional HOARD entry. When Jim gets back he will most likely bump me down to a normal artist gallery again so I I'll see you all there ;D.

The weapons are not slot in. The model comes with 4 shrouds r/l small(ballistic weapons) and r/l large(missiles) and the weapon page has all the weapons. However the model above does not have the legs and arms glued onto it. I used blue sticky tack to hold the pieces together and it works quite well. using this method you could make some interchangeable weapons.

One request though... I'd like to see a solid fold line instead of the dotted line. I think the solid makes the model look less like a paper model... I agree Beau! But, The fold lines give the modeler a difinitive idea of what folds and what doesn't. When I build my paper models I almost always sharpie out the dotted lines. I have most of them done on the model except the body and weapon shrouds. I just wanted to post a pic of what the figure looked like. Ill be finalizing it before I go and take my real photos. Nate

well the test build is all finished and I think she looks rather good. Now just some minor tweaks, make the instructions and then photo the finished model. Enjoy Slick

Do you have a test-build of the whole model (textured or plain white) that we can ogle perhaps? ;D Hehe your looking at it ;D. I designed about 95% of the model in sketchup so I was almost certain that all the parts would fit together in the end. I do have to make some small changes to the file first before I release it. The thigh armors inside needs to be shortened to make room for a new shortened hip joint. Also the holes for the arm joints on the weapon shrouds needs to be enlarged a bit. But all of these are minor changes like a few mm here and there. Nate

The black backs are actual included in the file it self. Just like figures are folded in half to make front and backs I have made the back for you. Here is an example. I hate having to laminate or color black parts so this was my option for getting black backs. For figures that need black backing I go to my local office supply store and copy of a piece of black paper onto 110lbs card stock. I get a white side and a nice black back side for about 7 cents. Then I usually get yelled at by an associate and told how I'm going to wreck a fuser module that is good for 40,000 copies by running off 15 all black ones. But I digress. Nate

Sorry everyone that I have been so quiet as of the past few weeks. I can assure you that I have not fallen off the face of the planet. In fact I have been working on a side project for some time now and that mixed with some family visits has eaten up all my time. With that being said I would like to let you all know that My website www.slicksminiatures.com and my store on RPGnow are now up and running. There is not much of anything new on the site that you all have not seen posted here but all my future work stating with the NCC power armor will happen there. I will continue to post the NCC power armors progression in my board here. I would like to invite you all to come by and take a look around just excuse my mess I'm still learning how to make and manage a website and board (heck I still cant figure out how to get search engines to see my site ). I would also like to thank Jim and all of my friends and acquittance that I have made though my time here. With out your support and guidance I would still be making 72dpi figures in ms-paint with solid color fills. I have been browsing the net for a few years and never have I come across a more welcoming and hospitable group of people. Below are the links to my site and forum. www.slicksminiatures.com/slicksminiatures.proboards.com/Happy printing and cutting! Nate Augustyn

Lookin good! Every time I see the thread name, I can't help but hear the song "Dune Buggy" by POTUSA. Just for you I think we should have a blue one with a little blind spider figure as the driver. Nice work on the buggy it will turn out awesome Nate

I have never posted in here till now because I was still getting used to my programs but here they are.
Illustrator: For line art and gradient fills and layout. Photoshop: For finishing work and textures.
Sketch up Pro: 3D modeling Metasequoia: 3D modeling and mesh cleaning (sketch up does strange things sometimes with meshes and does not let you fix them so I always check my work here.) Pepakura: Unfolding and then its off to illustrator then photoshop.
All in all about the same programs That most people use. I want to get to learn canvas a little bit more but that will take some time.

parduz,
Thank you for such warm feedback on the Terran fleet! I designed these on a whim one day after a great game of Homeworld 2 with an old friend of mine. I am pleasantly surprised to say that they are to date my most popular models. Unfortunately the project is permanently shutdown.
This was my first attempt at making paper miniatures that other people could use and the Heavy Fighter was in fact the first ever file that I released to the Internet. My design program at the time was MS-paint (Vista) and all the textures and what not were done by hand as well as all the layouts and line art. The figures were in 300dpi but due to the limitations of MS-paint I could only do so much. As the fleet grew so did my skills with graphics programs like photoshop and illustrator (my 2 programs of choice now) and unfortunately I just lost interest in doing the figures the old way in paint so the project died. The above mentioned shortcomings of my skills and the programs I had been using can explain the lack of quality fold lines, black borders, layout and a general poor quality of art.
At this time I have no intention of expanding, creating or revamping any of my starship designs. Perhaps (almost a certainty) I will do some more designs in the future that will be more on par with what I wanted to create a year ago. With that being said I will be more then happy to provide you with all the master files that I have for you to do with as you please. Just PM me your email address and ill see about getting them to you.
Thanks again for your interest and as always feedback is more then welcome. I'm still and always will be learning and it helps point me in the right direction!

OK 30mm it is. I might just make the mechs 3x taller then a person to keep the scales down though.
Let me explain the two part idea that I have a little better.
1) The model side. I have come up with a very convincing 2.5d system for building complex mech parts like legs and arms and will be sticking with 3d bodies. This system is quite versatile and allows for a HUGE amount of posing. One thing that I love is customizability. So I have made a universal joint system for attaching the legs and arms to the mechs body. With this I can develop several very different looking parts that can be interchanged with one and other.
2) The game side. I have come up with a system where each part (Legs, Body, R/L Arms) each have individual stats and abilities. There is also about 25 different weapons with stats that I have designed some handheld others mounted in the shoulders. Since each part has its own stats they can be interchanged to create a variety of different mechs to suit your play style. All that is needed now is a simple easy to learn core set of rules to govern Tuns, movement, combat and what not.
Ultimately if it all comes together I want to get a set of the game rules and 3 mech designs together for release as a core game pack. Then if things work out I can release other mech designs so that the part list grows and so does the expanse of the game.

I have begun work on my next series of stuff after I get through with the NCC line. It is going to be a series of mechs and perhaps a simple set of rules. I am having a little bit of trouble with deciding on the scale though and would like some feedback. The mechs I am desiging are about 4x the height of a person so at 30mm they will be 12cm(120mm) tall. Perhaps a little too large for a 4x4 foot gaming table. Next I thought about doing then in 15mm but that would make the finished product at 60mm in height but a nasty pain to build. There would also be structural problems with these due to the small parts. I was thinking about going with a 20mm scale. This was for several reasons. First its the smallest buildable size that I feel comfortable producing. Second scaleing down (to 15mm) and up (to 30mm) Can be done rather easily. Anyone have any constructive critisium, ideas, rants, flames and so on?

Here is a small update on the power armor. All of the body parts are setup for textureing and shading. Below are the 2 pages that are finalised. There will be a 3rd page for the weapons. Weapon selection is a follows from top to bottom, heavy machine gun, twin linked gatling gun, large missiles, small missiles, sensor dome, sensor body, energy weapon, flamer, cannon and rail gun. The weps are not finished yet but I can work on them as I get the body textured. Enjoy Nate

I know this is not the best way but once the file is in photoshop I select everything and then scale it to 50% (1/2 of 30mm is 15mm) and they come out OK. I can then copy and paste so that I get more to a page. There is also a way to shrink it down and print 2 pages to 1 page in Adobe reader but I have no clue how to. I have just read about people doing it that way. Hope it helps some.
