I made the suggestion about have a PBM type game, but then thought How about a live RPG over something like Discord?
A PBM game would be slow and long lasting, where-as a live session would be short, say one hour at the weekend at a time thst would suit both sides of the Atlantic - I'm at GSM +2 WITH daylight saving time, so at the moment it's GMT +3.
I'll keep this open for a week.
I think we woud need at least four people, three players and a GM, for a viable game.
Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

Depends on the game... I'm in Germany, that should be GMT or UTC +2, or CET +1 right now, due to DST (also called "summer time" around here). So, basically we have CEST here...

To keep things simple to start with, for the live RPG session, I would suggest 5th edition Tunnels and Trolls. Flying Buffalo offer a free "light" version of the rules to download.
The PBM style game would be based on Traveller High Guard/Trillion Credit Squadron for certain in game mechanics.
Unless anyone else has other suggestions.

I never played 5E, but have reviewed Odyssey of the Dragonlords the other day, a campaing for 5E set in an alternate ancient Greece... So, in lieu of said review, I might try out 5E with you guys.
It depends on the time slot, though. I played online in a short Star Trek campaign a few years back, and since the rest of the group was in the US, time slots were around 2 or 3 am CET. I'd like to avoid that, if possible...

Like I said, I'm at UTC +3 (CET +2), so I'm not really up for 3am games either - plus we live in a small apartment, so I know Mrs Alloydog and Alloydog jr wouldn't be too appreciative either. I guess East Coast of the colonies is UTC -5 or -6, but not sure if DST applies to all. But anyway, I was thinking Saturday or Sunday, so it would be evening-ish for the Europeans and morning in the US and Canada.

Basic Rules120 pages! This is why they came up with Tunnels &Trolls - The full rule book is 99 pages, but this "light" version PDF is 16 pages: 6 pages of rules, 10 pages for a solo adventure and hook for a moderated game.

Yes, that's the link.
Don't change what you run on my account - if it's too different from what you already know, that might make you uncomfortable.
Running a first virtual session for a system that you're unfamiliar with maybe not worth the double headaches.
Honestly, I've been afraid to do it, and I know 5E like the back of my hand... That's why I was hoping to play in someone elses online game first...

How about we use a "Lasers & Feelings" variant of some sort. There's a version for every genre, so we would just have to agree on what kind of game we want to play. The original ( www.onesevendesign.com/laserfeelings/) is a Trek-style scifi game, but there are many more versions available, all under CC... Tights & Fights - A Wrestling RPG ( www.drivethrurpg.com/product/232976/Tights-and-Fights-A-Lasers-and-Feelings-hack) Badges & Bravado - An 80's cop show RPG ( www.drivethrurpg.com/product/289124/Badges--Bravado?term=badges) Muscles & Miracles - Your regular fantasy RPG ( www.drivethrurpg.com/product/280700/Muscles--Miracles--A-Lasers--Feelings-Hack?affiliate_id=228694) Tactical Waifu - L&F with Anime Girl Operators... WTF??!? ( www.drivethrurpg.com/product/157352/Tactical-Waifu) Augmented Reality - My own take on a cyberpunk hack of L&F. Works a little bit different, and right now only available in German, but I could translate (and eventually run) it... Pulver & Piraten - Translates to "Powder & Pirates", a pirate game hack of L&F... Also only available in German, this time not my doing... drive.google.com/file/d/1kFClUCWdzsDs6cvXtoqoOivFIV7FW4y3/viewAnd those are only a few versions, of what is available. Each of these games consists of one page of rules (sometimes 2, Augmented Reality has a total of 4 (2 for the players and 2 for the GM)). The basic mechanic is that you have a number and have to roll either above or below it, depending on the situation. These games are usually d6 based, and I've never seen a need for more than 4 dice (the maximum number in the games is usually 3, but once in a con game, someone got a 4th d6 due to circumstances)... This should be the perfect game for an online oneshot... EDIT: You will find loads more versions, if you simply type "Lasers & Feelings" into the search bar on DriveThruRPG...

We can keep all those suggestions open until the poll closes. For all we know, the PBM might take over...

I would prefer the PBM idea. My schedule isn’t consistent enough for a regular live game. :/ BUT, I can always check in at some point.
Perhaps BOTH? If there are people interested in running each.

If every game would be a one-shot adventure for 3 to 4 hours, and the campaign made up of individual episodes, it would be no problem to be in an episode or not, kind of like an old TV show... Needless to say that any kind of Lasers & Feelings hack would be perfect for this, as the GM could simply roll the episodes theme at the beginning of each session, and then make up the adventure, as the party hops along...

I wouldn't go for daily, as either GM or player, I don't have time. Weekly would be the thing. The idea being, that when you're a CinC of an army/armies or fleet/fleets, you can't be on-site at every event, so you have to sit at your command post, receive messages and give orders. If it were a meieval/fantasy type campaign, messages would be send manually, or if it were a SciFi space setting, then it still takes a week to make a jump. For a live RPG, I think an hour per session is maximum, as we're all on different time zones, so while everyone might have a couple of hours to spare, they probably won't be at the same time. So far, the PBM campaign has leapfrogged into the lead.

Weeeeelllll... The way the poll is going, it looks like the PBM is the one I'll be running. But, if we got one or two more people interested in the live RPG, could you shep, run some Lasers & Feelings games?
