mesper nice! That knight has a nice 'storybook' feel to it. So in keeping with the theme of 'taking longer than it should' I've scrapped my previous designs for these goblins, and have gone with a much more traditional gobbly bunch of fellows. I also decided to go back to my old process of lineart over a rough sketch. I've attached a shot of my progress so far. Don't mind their nudity; they will be (mostly) armed and armored before being sent off to battle. i love the result man!!!! they deserve an entire army to be made!!!! a naked version would be nice too i suggest them to be armed as vikings... they would be an interesting idea!!! vikings goblins!!! with longships!!! mesper ..... what? ? DONT STOP USING BLACK LINES!!!! i love your inks!!! i think they are what you do best!!!! so please dont stop using them T.T

Vikings are cool, but I think goblins should be more alien. They are not just short, ugly, humans, after all. I can't think of what that would mean right now, but those are my two cents to be ignored or not as you like.

cowboyleland I agree. This is always an interesting problem when designing/playing fantasy creatures. I think the trick is finding the spirit behind a cultural motif, and incorporating it, rather than dressing your creatures up to look like a certain culture. Easier said than done...

Here's a little update: I started off with a celtic vibe (shields + pants) with a goblin twist adding in the rodent furs + bones.

Here are a couple examples of ranks. I'm hoping that simply changing their position within the line will add enough variety to keep the units from looking too monotonous. I may add a command rank as well for the front. Next step is refining the lineart for their gear, and slapping some color on them. At which point I can do some test prints at various sizes.

That and mirroring them. Four figures become eight that way. Do you have these in a form without spears and shields? If so, you could mirror and add the shields and spears on and keep everyone right-handed

Vermin King I will have to try it out. I have their bodies and gear on separate layers, so it shouldn't be too hard to do. However, I'm not sure if I'll be able to mirror them without making any modifications. They are all slightly angled from left to right. The nature of having the ranks printed as one piece means they have to overlap, and I think, be facing the same way.

I misunderstood. I thought these would be individual pieces, based as ranks. I wish I could say this is the only error I have ever made

Here's another progress shot. Final line work for a couple of them. I did a quick print test with the roughs I posted last time. I will definitely have to simplify the drawing for anything smaller than 28mm. These guys are already smaller due their goblin height.

Thanks Antohammer! And here they are with the colors finalized. Next step will be doing the backs, and then printing and assembly for final tweaks and presentation!
