OK, so it looks like we will be REALLY starting our Original D&D campaign on July 12, 2020. I've got two out of five players set up already, one wants to run a straight human fighting man, the other is running an anthropomorphic raccoon magic-user (of course there are anthropomorphic raccoons, this is OD&D and the only limit is imagination!) I am hoping to hear back from everyone else soon so I know what direction to take the campaign in once we get through the first few adventures. WE were supposed to start way back in February but the world went to Hell in a handbag.
Feeling positive!
Right now, I don't plan on using any 3d props like miniatures, standees, or combat maps, but this may change as the campaign goes on. I'll see what we need and figure it out from there. I had some amazing papercraft sets for my D&D4e games, but it got difficult to keep up with the making of models and painting of miniatures in time for game night o.0

Goodness, I thought you had enough of a collection that you could sub in proxies, if you didn't have what you exactly needed.
When I started, we mapped on engineering paper and used boxes and cans and whatever else to represent terrain where necessary.
Wishing you the best

The Players Manual pictured is AD&D, sometimes referred to as 1st edition AD&D.
Not pictured are the D&D versions between the white-box (sometimes called OD&D) and Basic/Expert D&D - often called Blue and Red box editions. It's complicated.
Then there's the entire OSR/Retroclone movement...

I had never heard of OD&D. We always called them "the old little books," as in "it was something mentioned in one of the old little books." Yeah, I've played all these editions, and 5th and both Pathfinders. I still like 3.5 the best. With lots of houserules.

This one here. The 1974 version. Maybe with a little "Chainmail" thrown in when there are 40 or so orcs on the prowl...

Goodness, I thought you had enough of a collection that you could sub in proxies, if you didn't have what you exactly needed. The problem is, when your first several games have a very high bar for visuals, I feel like I am slacking when I start subbing stuff. Literally being a victim of my own success! It was 4th edition, so grids were a requirement and it just exploded from there. In the end, two of the guys broke up and didn't want to play the campaign anymore, another moved to New York, and I started having seizures again. This time around, I want my life to consist of more than going to work (hahaha, I was placed on leave of absence yesterday because my facility is moving!) and prepping for the weekly D&D game.

One of the campaigns I run we get together for a weekend every 6 months. I like that pattern because it is an EVENT that we all look forward too, and I can put lots of work into it but it doesnt take over my life for more than a few weeks at a time.

If a good opportunity came up to get going again with a gaming group, I am afraid I would keep trying to one-up myself on terrain
