Started work on the Auxiliary Troops. For some reason these are taking a bit longer. Could be the extra bits on the different uniform types. Coming along...coming along. ~F

Very good work... The visors are especially well done. Nice font on the "Auxillary Crew Sample" tag...

Fumble or no, these are still looking sharp. I especially like the technique you have used on the medic cases. It really gives them an embossed metal feel.

Floyd: Nice! Looking forward to seeing these!
Once I get 'em and I'm finished with my additions to the set, I'll send the whole thing off to Jim to do his thing with.

I was converting Floyd's reskins to a polished, "retail-ready" Craft ROBO format so people could painlessly machine-cut their figures with no need for conversion, but we moved to a new fixer-upper house recently, and that's completely borked my work schedule to the point where I'm struggling to catch up with everything.
I don't really have the time to devote to free stuff right now (free as in volunteering my time), and I'm too far behind to promise a release in the near future, so I'm just going to give up on the Craft ROBO conversion. I'll simply forward Floyd's work as-is to Jim sometime within the next couple of days. (Pretty busy today and hoping to finish up the current project by tomorrow)

Well, I was rebuilding the flats in Metasequoia as flat 3D silhouettes, using Floyd's reskins as the texture, and these silhouettes were to be exported to Ultimate Papercraft 3D, because I wanted ultra-clean machine data with distinctly separated cut and fold lines.
I actually finished the machine-cuttable Terra Force soldiers and half of the special weapons troopers before the move clobbered my productivity. That also still leaves the auxiliaries and Stalkers, but I don't see myself finishing those anytime soon for a lot of annoying real-world reasons that directly impact the amount of time I can spend on this stuff.
The Autotrace tutorial I posted here yields quick and acceptable results for home use, but it's not clean enough to pass my retail-ready standard. You know how I am--I want clean, precise, and standardized cutting data in a format that Just Works.
I figure if I just pass Floyd's work in its original form to Jim, you guys can at least enjoy his reskins in a conventional format until the time comes when I can resume work on the machine-cuttable versions. It's my fault it's taking so long, anyway.

Hopefully this winter I can flood everyone with tons of GUNCRAWL figures.
I can really appreciate all the work into setting up the cutting files. I know sometimes I look at a pile of figures, and wish I had some way of cutting them easier.
I will be doing some experiments laser cutting the figures. I'm not sure what kind of edge I'll get, or if I can get the alignment good, but it would be a cheap option for me to do some preprinted sets to sell. JIM

Files sent. As for the laser cutting, I'm not an expert in that field. I think it could be done if you have the ability to manually set the origin of the beam and to place the cutting medium in a repeatably precise location on the bed. I think you'd also need argon or some other oxygen displacing gas so your printouts don't catch fire. -Mel

Alignment shouldn't be a problem, the main issue is them catching fire like you mention. We can set play around with the speed and power settings to cut these really fast, so I'm sure I can get them to work. I'll be posting my results. JIM Files sent. Awesome... Thanks for getting these moving...
I understand completely about the move... I'm about to move the family onto Post this weekend myself. It's a huge disruption to everyday life...
As for the CraftRobo, I just wish I had one...(grin) Are there very many people out there that do?

JIM Does the laser-cut borders of the figures dispense the "edging with a black marker" step of miniature assembly?

To certain extent the laser will burn the edges of the paper, but the edging is more for slight gaps and edges showing after cutting. I will be making a set just for laser cutting, and make the borders even thicker.
I still don't think I can do this as a commercial venture. I just wouldn't have the time to print, cut, collate, package and ship printed product, I'm a designer not a retailer. But for my own samples and such, this will work great for myself.
This is why I am considering getting the Craft ROBO, so if I create cutting templates for myself, I can share them with anyone who can use them. And start designing figure sets with ROBO files included. I think they are getting cheap enough to justify promoting them as a good tool for making lots of paper figures and models. JIM

Definitely do that--I already sell machine-cuttable models that include the cutting files. Also, I can't go into any specific details because I'm bound by a nondisclosure agreement, but others in the industry are going to be offering machine-cut models in the near future.
I'll send you my designer starter kit in a few minutes so you can hit the ground running when you get a cutter.

Hey Floyd! I'm getting your upgraded figure designs organized and will release them. Can you fix the spelling error and whip up another version of this banner ad, 500 pixels wide. I'll add it to the store page. Started work on the Auxiliary Troops. For some reason these are taking a bit longer. Could be the extra bits on the different uniform types.
