The theme for this month's HOARD is About the Castle This can be any sort of miniature figure or model on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your entries, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of November, 2020. Oh, how I wish I had come back to this and pegged the element we would hope to accomplish. Suggestions were a Market, a Tournament, a Hamlet, and though not mentioned, the one that comes to my mind is the barracks and armory. We are aiming less for Fantasy, except for the hints of Fantasy found in Fables and Legends. Shep's phrase 'Non-magically Magical' really seemed to fit my picture. Since we aren't in November yet, do we want to discuss a specific element of medieval life or for this year should we keep it general? Let's lean more to Historical than Fantasy. The idea of developing this over several Hoards so that teachers would be able to teach kids about medieval life is something that I would like to see through. Jump in with ideas folks

Shall we just go for 'In General'?

"Things associated with castles" is what this Hoard felt like to me. Guardsmen, stables, catapults, courts of the wizard-kings, knights tournaments, that old ruined bell-tower that's probably haunted by the widow of the former regent...

"In General" relating to castle life seems good to me...

Related to the Castle - CWF Hoard SubmissionSo OK, let it be related to the castle... or rather somewhere inside the castle. So here it is: - knight (kneeling) taking an oath - swearing by the sword Probably the least useful figurine in battle games, but whatever - maybe it will be useful to someone? Anyway - enjoy! I had several ideas on this, but I am just fried right now. In an age when everything is done electronically, it seems strange that I put 1300 miles on my car this week

I had so many ideas for this, and I doubt I can get much more than a simple idea done. So, if anyone feels like doing a tannery or a loom, go for it

I think a spinning wheel would be perfect, but I'm not going to be the one to do it.

As I was reading about the silk trade through Venice, I found that there are still some of the late medieval looms in existence and a few still in use. As I did further reading, some of the Belgian looms are still in existence. Weavers and Leathermen would have been more in abundance than Armorers and Steelsmiths. And all these operated under charter of the Lord under the authority of the Monarch. Merchants and traders and almost anything we think of as a medieval career would have required a license or charter to perform. And they were practically all subject to conscription. When you weren't specifically engaged in the job you were chartered to perform, they could shanghai you for whatever job needed done. 'Free' had a different meaning back then.
And I am rambling again ...

Antonio, you are pure madness! Incredibly good my friend. I see these characters and I immediately have a positive feeling. Paper figures as therapy to reduce stress! Thank you so much. Take care, stay safe and best regards, Andreas

Perhaps medieval maids (various ages) doing sewing, weaving, etc ? Really interesting ideas here - thanks! Well, I probably won't get the hoard in time - but the ideas (and hopefully sketches) will not be wasted! So, this thread led me most probably to completely new(!) project - which is INSIDE(!) the Castle... Some rough sketch/lineart mockups:

That's about like the DaVinci glider. Great as long as you intend to go down. But your knight is at least armored for when he eventually stops

I prefer the first one, actually. Think of the honor to be the knight entrusted to charge into the enemy and still have a chance to fight his way back out
