There are some really cool ideas for terrain here. I Iove the idea of canals and bridges and rooftops to fight on. That is the official TT Combat Carnevale terrain, all MDF. I want to create something like that in paper. So far I have buildings by Glenn Williams and riva by David Graffam

I'm working on a set of Musketeers and a set of Venice Duelists. I have two of those characters amongst my TT Combat Patricians. I am very tempted to get these sets for practice games until I have all my figures painted

The wine merchant's shop. Having used a purple Back Alleys building for the mask maker, I decided to make this one red.

Wine merchant, canal facade. The double doors (adapted from Merchant Prince) are to allow wine barrels to be floated in, straight off a boat. The small shuttered window (by Vermin King) is for a dry room, where the wine is bottled. The style of window suggests the shutter can be lifted off from the inside, leaving a metal grill. This way deliveries can be paid for. The windows on the family level are also by Vermin King

Looks like that winemaker has spilled his wares all over his house.

Looks like that winemaker has spilled his wares all over his house. I knew a red house for a wine merchant was probably a bad idea

A red house for a wine merchant is a good idea. It was the wine merchant who thought he could have a white house that made the mistake.

I have something of a dilemma. When I was planning my Carnevale project I acquired the Casa Rosata by Shep. I love the details on this building and would like to include it on my table. The problem is that the most effective way I can envisage doing this is to do a kit-bash. The finished model would be a hybrid of Shep's Casa Rosata and Glenn's Merchant Prince with extra detailing and a modified roof. Would such a project be a disrespectful use of Shep's model?

Yes!
Shep and I were sharing a lot of info on this project, and he was planning on releasing his 'advanced' model, which he repeatedly said that he wanted to see what I can do with it.
He wanted to see what others would do.
I still want to try to build an advanced model of it. Even in his advanced model, he was hoping that I could come up with a way to do the porches on the front because he was having issues with it.
He seemed to share a similar philosophy that I have. If someone builds your model, you have helped them out. If they modify it, they care enough to put extra effort in the model you supplied.

I agree. Shep always asked about modding my minis for his Trek games and finally, I said exactly the same thing, "If you are passionate enough to put in the time and effort to mod the minis please have fun, do so and create even more awesome minis for people to enjoy!" I know he shared that same philosophy. That DIY cooperative approach is what got me into paper minis and papercraft in the first place.

The next stage of the sortoportego riva. Venice Back Alleys buildings with re-textured walls. The brick texture is from one of the Merchant Prince options. These, when finished, will complete the row. A small bridge (by Vermin King) will join the two creating a second sortoportego, back into the square.

Front of green house completed. Door and upper family level windows, Venice Back Alleys by Glenn Williams. Attic window, Venice Merchant Prince by Glenn Williams. Street and lower family level windows, Sortoportego San Antonio by Vermin King. The mix and match approach is to blend this part of the city more closely

The other end of the San Antonio riva. Modified Venice Back Alleys buildings. The side of the green building will be up against the front part of Sortoportego San Antonio. The back will face into a square, featuring one Glenn's Venice Churches. The back of the yellow buildings will sit against a high riva, containing Merchant palaces

Taking a break from buildings, here is a step by step of how I build the riva. Step1: David Graffam high ground platform, pavement option 2, Medieval Grey Brick sides with drain openings.
