The theme for this month's HOARD is Sorcery and Enchantment This can be any sort of miniature figure or model on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your entries, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of April, 2021. When this topic came up, my first thought was that this would be a good opportunity to turn the Hexagonal Hagrid's Hut into an Octagonal Wizard's Hut (with a Hagrid's Hut option). Only now that Venice topics keep drawing my interest, a Spezieria/Apothecary/Potion shop comes to mind. Or since Venice was one of the primary printing centers during the late Republic (still can't believe there were three booksellers on the Rialto Bridge), a bookseller (with a special mystic section in the hidden room) also comes to mind. So many possibilities. Magic, Mysticism, creatures you have only heard about in stories, Witches, Wizards, Fortune Tellers. What's not to like. Have fun!

I think I have decided to work on the Spezieria (Apothecary/Alchemist Shop). This is from Monica's Edificios de Papel. I hope they are doing well, but they haven't posted on the blog since 6 de abril de 2015. I hope to do a similar building, but not as tall. I am not sure if I am going to make it thicker, or if I will have another building addition in the area between the wings. Probably thicker. I could have the shop in one wing and a workshop in the other. I think this could be a fairly quick project and should prove to be an interesting one. I hope to do this in a way that the top floors lift off to have an interior on the main floor. But it will depend on available time. Real life has thrown me a curve ball recently. But for my own sanity, I need to work on a project, not just build things. I also want to try doing an apothecary figure in eddnic style, but that is probably doubtful EDIT -- Each wing is 1.5 inches front to back. Will definitely have to go for a thicker building EDIT #2 -- I liked the door on the corner and this not being at 90 degrees, but this really isn't adaptable. The courtyard walls behind are way too short to give any meaningful space. To have meaningful space, you would need to have buildings that have the same depth. The building posted above is a model of an actual building, and as such has odd angles on the end walls, too. So, I guess I am starting from scratch, though this does give me ideas. At some point, I would like to do a building similar to this one But not this time. So the first thing I need to decide on is the angle I want the wings to take with respect to each other. Then, do I want to have the cut off corner? I think it is time to sleep on it

That is an interesting building. When you were talking about the Spezieria, I visualized a building with a slight sloped along the front, squaring off for the door, but otherwise rectangular. So it could fit between too buildings of different widths. Maybe a few build options to fit different spaces

I'm distracted by other things and working on a model for a friends birthday. Also, no ideas jumped out at me.

I understand. I wouldn't have been making as much progress on my project, if it hadn't been something I thought of ages ago. I wonder how Antohammer's 'hair in the bikini area' figures are going

Hey, I totally understand. Real life is not being kind to me right now either. I am afraid that the Spezieria is going to be external only, unless I can get my hands on Hermione's watch

Did I mention I started school?
How about "straight A student?" I've never done that before in my life!
I might get to the Witch. I hope so. No promises.

A special Thank You goes out to gothique for doing the test build of the Spezieria/Apothecary/Potion Shop. The Epson is in Paper Shredder mode again. I still want to add a sign based off the Testa d'Oro sign. I have been looking up Medusa paintings to get the viper mass from the 1600s engraving of Theriaca production. And I need to get a chimney for this. I really can't believe this printer has been so awful for me. I know of many folks who have had success with this model of printer, even. I just got a lemon

Here is cowboyleland's Theriaca Pounder And the Spezieria. Not sure if I will be able to get back to the sign and chimney EDIT -- added a roof cap strip to page 2, to cover any gaps between the roofs when building as a single building.

Hey, cowboyleland, I was always under the impression that it isn't a set unless there are three. So, you have the facchini and a Venetian noble, any ideas on a third? Actually, the Aurochs should count. Nevermind

I doubt I can get the sign to work out. Darn. But since I was giving myself extra time, I think we will close this Monday when I get back in town, probably around noon Central Time. So you still have a little more time.

Actually, the Aurochs should count. Nevermind I don't imagine lots of aurochs swimming the canals of Venice, but I don't have any other ideas so I am glad you think they count. BTW You did finish your dock workers, right? Did anyone ever actually do a gondolier? Edit: I remember factoria tabletop did a gondolier, and you included one on the page here cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/10224/bit-adrift-days-build-brag?page=3 but there are a few figures in that thread that didn't get done up. I think I will spend an hour . . .

I think I will spend an hour . . . Actually, Cacce dei Tori -- The Hunt was a big deal for Venice until Napoleon paved over the Campos, the Squares. Bull fights usually involved men and dogs and took place in the Campi, which means Fields. At almost any given time between 900 AD and 1793 AD, Venice was known as much for the Bull fighting as for Carnevale. And since for the bulk of that period, Aurochs were still around, I think they can be included in Venice. At least before Napoleon and then the Austrians
