I game a lot with my paper minis (as I assume most of us do) and most of my gaming is either old school D&D or D&D-esque, hence I use a lot of flat terrain with my stand up figures.
I would think this would be a fairly natural outgrowth of a forum that is geared mostly to 2d figures, as this is a very easy and natural way to do roleplaying and skirmish games.
There is nothing wrong with 3d paper/cardboard terrain, of course, and many of the pieces displayed on our forum are quite stunning. That said, 2d flat terrain also has many advantages, the three primary ones being that it is very durable, easy to set up, and practical to game on.
Do we have an area for such creations, or is that considered beyond the scope of cardboard warriors?
Thanks

I would suggest Heroic Maps on DriveThruRpg

I would suggest Heroic Maps on DriveThruRpg Actual battlemats, similar to the ones Paizo produces for Pathfinder/Starfinder are great, but, of course top down flat terrain that can be used on a flat battlemat is great too. There I'm thinking of stuff like Billiam Babble does on drivethru rpg. His stuff for starships and build your own dungeons are very nice.

Remeber that really cool set of mine tiles? I think Parduz had something to do with it. Imma look. Edit: I can't find it, and it was tiles, not a battlemat. A search for "tiles" will bring up a LOT of stuff.

Yeah, we definitely lean more towards tiles than battlemats, but they both have their places

My most recent battle took place on a "battlemat" made from the pages provided at the ebbles site. I constructed this one myself from 25 pages of 6x6 tiles for a 30x30 paper battlemat. I used road tiles from paper realms on top of it. Most of the additional features were 3d paper terrain pieces. My previous game took place on a (portion of) a Dave Graffam Modern/Sci-Fi battlemat from DriveThruRPg, an industrial park. Like most of Dave's stuff it was in an ongoing sale and, I think, cost me the grand sum of 71 pence. This too came as a pdf document and I had to trim glue and tape the pages. Dave also does an intersecting road network battlemat designed to serve as the basis of a couple of his named villages for his 3d houses. They are an excellent foundation for a house to house combat skirmish.
I store these battlemats rolled with an old kitchen roll inner to keep them safe. After a little experimentation I've found that one of these mats in a plainer colour/texture serves as a great backdrop for the 2d tiles etc. I have road tiles and river tiles made up. I prefer to combine 2d and 3d but some combinations look odd. For example I'm fine with 2d rivers but 2d bridges look weird to me! I've also previously used the dungeon tiles from one of kris Crooked Staffs sets. He does a great set of videos showing how to make tiles and how to populate them with all kinds of 2.5d creations.
Hope it goes well. GR

I like using printed battlemaps combined with 3d terrain, mainly because I do not have a wargaming dedicated table. The mats are quick fixes to beautify the layout. Here are a couple of newly made ones I drew up on 2ft x 3 ft specs, exact for my table and suiotable for my plastic 1/72 armies as well as my cardstock armies.

Do you have a good print shop nearby to print them up in one piece?

Do you have a good print shop nearby to print them up in one piece? Yes, I have a few local suppliers connected to my day job as a graphic designer. The one who prints my stuff for battlemats does it using large format printers on special paper and the inks are lightfast.

Sorry for being so much late, mate I think that the mine tiles you're talking about are the Under the Mountain set made by Nemo (which yes, it's a friend of mine).
