For a long time now, I have wanted to try my hand at creating something, not just building someone else's work. After a few false starts, I am actually making progress. Since I barely understand the 3D modelling process, and the export / unfolding might as well be magic to me, I am doing it the OLD fashioned way. Doing the build layout in Corel Draw 8 (most recent I have) and doing the texturing from free / royalty free textures I have found on the internet and combining them into Corel Draw. So far, I have the first floor, second floor and roof of a combination shop / home laid out and textured. Still to go, adding glue tabs, some supports, a few display racks and the base for it. HOPING to have it done tomorrow, or Saturday at the latest, so I can test-build and take pictures for documentation. Here's one of the upstairs wall sections, textured.
The wall is 2" tall by 6.5" long. I found a repeating plaster / stucco texture for the walls, the windows was cut from an image that originally had plaster around it (sadly, did not match) and the boards are from a worn painted boards texture. Learned a lot about photoshop last night and today, including how to layer mask (to get the peaked roof elements). Frustrating but fun so far.

Test build revealed three minor errors....a missing label, a fold line too low, and another too high. I went back and corrected the pages with the objects on them, so its now ready to export and package to PDF! I took pictures at various stages of the build and will work on an instruction set tonight. Should be ready to send them in for the Papercuts! contest. How / where do I send the zip file once everything is completed?

Do you do Dropbox or one of the cloud services? I generally create a Dropbox folder. You then have the ability to create a link that you can share that folder with others

I never thought of that, figured I would have to upload an entry to here. That's what I get for thinking! Working on a little by-line graphic to put at the bottom of pages, then will re-export and package. Should have it ready for downloading tomorrow.

You can post the link here, or you can message squirmydad. I don't know if you have messaged anyone here. If you click on the highlighted 'squirmydad' above, it will take you to his profile page. In the upper right corner of the page is a button to message him. And if you have messaged here before, I bet someone will read this who needs the info

I set the sharing to everyone with link is viewer. Posted my entry to the Model Submissions (Design) category and included the links.
