As part of my Carnevale collection, I plan to create something similar to this

As the barge in the picture is too big for my Carnevale board, I plan to use a Vermin king gondola for the hull. The size of the model will only allow for single gondolier. I would imagine the pall bearers would travel is a second gondola or even a similar sized sandola. The gondola is 45mm at the widest point.

For the hearse part, I intend to use the upper body from a Papierschnitzel (lightning) horse drawn hearse.

On measuring the relevant section, I realised it was only 50mm wide. At 80mm long it overlaps the seating area of the gondola by 7mm. The question is: Do I adjust the dimensions of the box section to fit inside the gondola or do I work the design to include the overhang

Do a little Gimp-work and lose the opening in the top deck of the gondola. That gives you a reasonably flat surface to put the hearse shell on top of. I would narrow the hearse shell to whatever width the gondola is there at the ends of the shell. I have seen the Barca Funebre done as a gondola, a Ràscona, a Traghetto and one as a Bragòsso. I say gondola, but it is probably more of a sandolo, because it had statues at the end instead of the Ferro at the front and Risso at the back.

Working in Photoshop it should be reasonably easy to narrow the ends of the hearse section, without noticeable changes to the windows. This may require a reposition of the original wide window to suggest side loading. A simplification of the roof detail may also be neccesary

My design should be a less ornate version of that. I need to decide whether to have windows, similar to the hearse body, or cut away like that. If I do an enclosed version I need to modify the windows to suggest a side loading door. If i do a more traditional canopy I need to make an interior for one of Sir Kevin's ornate coffins. This may result in two models

A curtained opening should be fine. Most of the felze's didn't have doors, just curtains

A curtained opening should be fine. Most of the felze's didn't have doors, just curtains I think I can do that by making the nearside window wider. The gondola may need a 5mm stretch so the hearse body fits better and gives the appearance of a felze

I was doing some preliminary work on this last night. I figured you might have dimensional questions, and without looking at it, I wouldn't be able to answer.
I think giving it a stretch would be a good thing. Not so much a stretch of the whole thing, but an 'extension' in the middle. I was tending to think 10 to 15 mm, though

The hearse body is 80mm long. The passenger section of the gondola is 73mm. Any more than a 10mm extension would require a redesign of the upper deck. My idea was to attach the closed end of the hearse body to the front end of seating area. One advantage of a longer stretch would be providing seats for two pall bearers, behind the hearse/felze
