... from way back in the WH40K 2nd edition days.During my rather long break from gaming, my cousin sent me a WH40K Kill Team box. 95% untouched, all but three of the figures are still on the sprue! Being 1st Edition, however, means that it is only figures and no terrain. I am going to make my own. But I thought I would make the practice runs usable, even if they are a bit basic on the texture (I'm using LibreOffice) - Shapes and layers first, textures after. However, having not yet actually assembled any of the figures (I only have some Primaris Marines, which are a bit large), the size might need tweaking. Grim-Dark Future Walls 01 Grim-Dark Future Bunker I notice that postimage converts PDFs to PNGs, so if the PNGs come out crap, here are the PDFs: alloydog.neocities.org/images/GrimDarkWalls_01.pdfalloydog.neocities.org/images/GrimDarkBunker.pdf

Looking forward to your build pics. I did a test build, but that was with plain printer paper and I used thick double-sided stick tape to hold it together, so it came out a bit wibbly-wobbly! Also, the lack of texture detail makes it look a bit too cartoony. MKII is definitely required! MKII of the walls and the bunker will also be slotted together, not folded/glued, as I lack storage space, I want them to be flat-packable.

I rehashed the wall section so that it was less GeeDouble-Ueeey and a bit more generic Gothic style (inspired by Wells Cathedral, in Somerset): And the original PDF is here.

A set of doors: ( PDF HERE) You fit the buttresses where you want them to be. In the build below, I used rather thick corrugated card, so they fit into slots cut not quite though to the other side. For thinner card, or paper, you can fit them the same way as with the walls.

The wall section seemed OK on first build, but I found it needs the white area next to the end columns filled in. Also, I need to do a mirror image. Two wall sections and the door make the front of an old abby: The wall section will be updated this evening.

Very cool! I remember when I first got that boxed set and it felt like there was just so much stuff in it! An instant battlefield! Two ready to battle forces! The Space Marines in that box were the only ones I ever painted.

Very cool! I remember when I first got that boxed set and it felt like there was just so much stuff in it! An instant battlefield! Two ready to battle forces! The Space Marines in that box were the only ones I ever painted. The one I was given is just Space Marines and Tau, no scenery - hence the sudden interest in Gothic/GrimDark buildings! I have just fixed the edge issue of the walls: So now they have a straight edge to butt up neatly to another section. Gothic Walls I PDF HEREAlso, a mirror image: For the photo of the "abby", I had to cut the buttress off one edge of the wall section and stick it on the other edge. Gothic Walls Ia PDF HEREI think "Gothic" brown stone suits fantasy, but would prefer a more grey version for GrimDark. I tried printing it up in grey-scale, but it didn't look very nice. Over the weekend I will try and make a grey stone version for my Raven Guard to lurk amongst.

I have just started reworking the bunker, again to be less a "copy of" and more "inspired by" the card model given in White Dwarf all those years ago. I haven't finished it, but I needed to put together a rough "prototype", so that I can make the roof. The corrugated card was a bit too crappy... Will post the PDF when it's done.

Quicky question: It seems a bit too monochrome to me. I tried to make look like concrete and steel, by using "free to use/download" textures". As far as the imagery is concerned, I'm OK with it, but the colouring is too grey. What do others think? "Realistic" colouring, or maybe a bit more "comic-book" and have a it more brighter colours? Oh, and by the way, here is the bunker ready for storage:

I think I would try (and it would just be my first try, might fail) to lighten it all up a bit so it is more "concrete in the light" as opposed to the "concrete in the shade" that you have going now. Then you could deepen the shadows and there would be more contrast. Then look for opportunities for highlights. The top of the horizontal slots would be a good bet.
Just my 2 cents.

Just thick cardboard, the sort you get at the back of a pad of paper. This stuff was from an old box that had printer labels. If I run out of thick card, I will glue two layers of cereal box card together. You end up with 2 to 3 mm thick solid card, as opposed to corrugated card.

Coming soon...Alien encampment walls, for the greater good!1st and 2nd prototypes (outside and inside views) The build is OK, nice and stable, supports a 28/30 mm figure and dismantles nicely to pack flat Just need to work on the image details - probably add proper gradient shadows and might do a version with weathering and so on.

Looking good, can it be made with doubled over cardstock or is chipboard essential to the stability?

Looking good, can it be made with doubled over cardstock or is chipboard essential to the stability? It's just thick card, from a box that had A4 printer labels. In most other cases, I use cereal packet card, folded and glued. But to be honest, that's just for durability, even one layer of card is enough.

This one has been in the works for way too long (pretty much like just about every other project I have on the go...) It a pretty-damned-close, but not quite Buildin D from the Warhammer 40,000 2 nd box set. I found some good photos of it, then using any figures on the old 25 mm bases, guess the size. Link to original PDF hereIt's a bit small when next to a new Primaris Marine (I still haven't started on the "First Born" marines yet): I have also started on scratch building some new style buildings (8 th/9 th edition stuff) - this time, on the GW home site, I found an image with height and width dimensions next to a model, so was able to to get a fairly close match. The model below is just a proof of concept/test build, using the thick card you get at the back of notepads or inside the plastic of ring-binders - it's way to soft and rough for proper building, for which I will use artists chipboard (idea got from Wyloch's Armory) You can clearly see the scale creep!
