There are a few books describing the methods of cutting and glueing to make your own functioning ones, but I never did get past reading into really making a few.

I was on the Kickstarter as well. I didn't like a few things about them (color, form-factor...) - so I never built them. It's my own fault, having a specific aesthetic for my games...
