Well, finally ordered my Brother Printer after dealing with the Paper Weight/Paper Shredder for way too long. Even in my befuddled state (Mystery Allergy that swells up anything exposed to the air and the double doses of Benadryl to clear it up), I set up and tried out my new Brother INKvestment MFC_J4335DW. Initially, I was a bit worried that in the Quick Start guide, once you get down to Step 3, every step's instructions conclude with 'Follow the LCD Instructions'. 14 steps. But it was actually very smooth and I didn't have to dive into the underbelly of my laptop to get the information on WiFi setup like I did on the Epson. I do like one particular feature on Brother's. You can print a Print Adjustment page, put it on the scanner bed, and the printer adjusts itself. I first printed off a 5-page primarily black and white document. Very nice quality. It also has a back feed for cardstock that is very easy to use, though you have to print one page at a time. So, for papercrafting workshops I am going to start in April, I printed off the Raspera Yellow Bunting. It looks beautiful. Now for a gripe. 'Contains Up To One Year's Worth of Ink'. Well maybe if you only print black and white. I already have a low ink warning after printing ONE yellow bird. I will keep you updated.

Well, last night I did a lot of 'work' printing. Since the first of December, I have been leaving client folders in a pile on my desk, waiting for the magical day when I could print up the pages of paperwork they needed before filing. I also had a couple letters that needed printing.
69 pages with no hiccups, no paper jams, no shredded paper, no pages stuck together.
With that other printer, it usually took at least five printings to get a 'passable' print. These are great from the start.
Cautiously optimistic

<= Idiot
Well, not so much of an idiot, but not realizing that my new Status Monitor is picking up information from my old printer that only prints in grayscale. Was going to order new Cyan and Yellow cartridges this AM and saw that I have a drop-down list of printers and the one that was displaying was for the old printer. When I selected the new printer from the drop-down, I am in excellent shape on ink.

I haven't had much time to do any paper models lately, but what I have printed looks really good

Maybe it is time for an update.
Approximately 320 pages into this printer and it is showing that I have approximately 1100 pages still available with the original ink.
One thing that I don't like about it is that it does duplex printing. On normal paper, it works like a champ, but not on cardstock. None of my other printers did duplex printing on cardstock either, but I guess I shouldn't say 'don't like', but 'I was hoping for different'

Update time!!!
I finally had to replace the Cyan cartridge. Honestly, I expect to have to change Yellow and Magenta within a couple months, but I have to say that I am really impressed

I've often thought of this original post and wondered how things are going.

When things are going well, there isn't much to say.
The world would probably be a better place if we took time to mention the good stuff more

In all honesty, I have to mention a couple things that aren't as good as my old Brother MFC-J430W.
The old J430W has the best interface for scanning with excellent imaging. The J4335DW scans from the front panel of the printer, not a taskbar button. The old one opens a window to see how the scan will look, but the new one doesn't have that. You have to save the scan and open to see what you've got.
The old printer allowed 67# cardstock to feed from the tray, not so with the new one. 110# must be fed from the back on both.
The Print Quality is a bit different, also. 'Best' on the new printer is always too heavy with the ink. I print on 'High' most times, the middle setting. 'Normal' was better with the old printer than the new one.
So, I even print my normal work documents on 'High' which seems to be a waste, but if I can go this long before replacing an ink cartridge, I can't complain much.
