Years ago now I was making a zine (that's an underground very very cheap magazine) and I wanted to do something weird for it, but I can't draw for the life of me, so I looked in various older books and magazines I had for inspiration, and I found it in "Be an Interplantary spy" number 5, and knowing that I shouldn't be making a comic with someone elses artwork without premission I tracked down this artist. He technically didn't own the orginal copyrights, but the company that made those books has since passed into non-existance, so all copyrights have transfered back to him, and he told me this when he gave me just about unconditional creative license with any artwork he did through that entire series. (including for sale, I sold that zine for 2.00 each) And it's been a while since I used that. So I think maybe I'll do a few figures

Ah! I love that series of books... I'm still looking for most of them as I'm an avid collector of interactive fiction!

There's a ton of places where you can find these things without having to pay too much. Look up "used bookstore" in your area (and hope you live in a place like las vegas (albion books here, and I think it's the book magician, the one one street west of umc, and that book store thats at flamingo and boulder hwy, or mtn vista, not sure on that one, if it's still there. and one on trop and pecos. Any used book store that advertises "10,000 rare used books" or "vintage used books" is going to have a childrens section. It's usually unorganized, and many of those places put a stock sign over the top "childrens books (price)" If you find or know of a place that fits that bill, they usually have a few choose your own adventures books and a few interplantary spies. If that wields no luck, try the desert industries and the more generic thrift stores, they sometimes have these. Salvation army has a huge selection of items, but they tend to price them individually at the ones I have been to. If you go to any of these places and do this, personal favor for me? Ask them if they have any blank books or notebooks or sketchbooks that have been written in previously to them acquiring them. I would like to buy any and they usually throw that stuff out

Will do...
Sounds like you've got a good selection around where you live! I live in a smaller city (80,000) and have exhausted all my used book, thrift shops around here. i stop in every month or so to see if any new stuff has come in and every once in a while it does...
I'd be more than happy to pay for the price of the books and shipping if you'd look for some for me.
If youd like to, I can send you a list of ones I'm looking for.
Thanks!
