Interesting the Procrastinators' Hoard was already pushed out of 2022 into 2023 Lunar New Year on January 22 welcomes in the Year of the Water Rabbit, so maybe that might inspire some thoughts - animals and elementals, for instance, and perhaps some D&D-esque Harengons and similar? Or possibly even lycanthropes, so two versions of each mini, fully human(oid) and animalistic (also fits with that mention of "Lunar", y'see!). January also sees the 125th anniversary of the death of Rev. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, aka Lewis Carol - time for some "Alice in.." or "..through the..." minis, mayhap? Possibly even a full anthropomorphised chess set or two? February brings the centenary of the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt; might struggle to find a new angle on ancient Egyptian style tombs and mummies, but they do seem to continue in popularity! April has the 70th anniversary of the publication of the first James Bond novel (Casino Royale), so perhaps some master spies and espionage-intent villains might be useful. Along with a host of tricks from "Q", naturally - model of Little Nellie the Autogyro, anyone? September marks the 50th anniversary of the death of J.R.R. Tolkien, so maybe some Middle Earth themed minis might be appropriate (especially given the recent release of the second edition of The One Ring RPG rules by Free League)? Obviously the names will need to be changed in the en td to protect the innocent, but... October has the centenary of the Disney Brothers Studio (whatever became of that, I wonder...); might inspire a few cartoon character thoughts though? I'm sure there are other anniversaries I've missed, as I've not got a lot of time to hunt around today, but maybe there's something here that will spark a few thoughts in others?

I'm sure there are other anniversaries I've missed, as I've not got a lot of time to hunt around today, but maybe there's something here that will spark a few thoughts in others? More, more! I wish they had been earlier, actually... #'s 1&2 by long-standing tradition, should have been in December so that they could be released before January #3 could be in January, if we push Procrastinators back a month (seems appropriate) #4 should be a March Hoard #5 should be in August, but that is Papercuts!, so I propose that it could be in July #6 should be in September Or we could do a Hoard during the anniversary month and see how much we can compile before the final compilation. Thoughts?

I started playing with topics.
By having 'How Disney destroyed the world' in September, that would leave a Halloween Hoard in June. I think having Christmas would be a better idea.
We would need a theme for 'Around the Castle' still
Ideas?

I rearranged the first post list a bit to line up more with anniversaries, and pushed the Procrastinator's Horde back because...we'll get around to it...eventually. What's happening in history for May and December?
โMayโ is likely named for the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants. Alternatively, the name might have come from the Latin maiores, โelders,โ who were celebrated now. Elder nature Gods & their followers?
We haven't had much fantasy focus, I like the idea of Elementals and elemental forces.

December is the birth month for both Walt Disney and General Custer, perhaps a Merry Melodies version of Steamboat Willies Last Stand?

I'm inclined to view the anniversary months as only being useful if we could fit them in then; if not, they're just ideas for something that could apply at any point all year. As long as people find inspiration in the idea, slotting them in whenever they can be fitted seems fine to me! As a heads-up for the Lunar New Year in 2024, starting 2024 Feb 10, that year's animal will be the Wood Dragon - Dryads & Green Dragons, for December, maybe? Or just something connected with Wood or Dragons (come on, DRAGONS!!!). May as nature gods, nature spirits and elementals hoard sounds like a good idea - drawing on the "Wood" theme too. Which frees up December for - DRAGONS!!!

This upcoming May marks the 225th anniversary of the Irish Rebellion against Britain. May 4th is also Star Wars Day. I propose May be "Rebel Scum" or maybe "Acts of Rebellion"
And I just realized I punned with 'May be' and 'maybe' *eyeroll*

We would need a theme for 'Around the Castle' still How about an old school D&D theme? By that, I mean castle dungeon themed, as opposed to caves, villages and over expanded setting. I know it can seem a bit limited and the world is chockablock with dungeon tiles and furniture, but maybe it could wrack a few brains and kindle some deeper, darker imaginations...

Castle Dungeon? Or perhaps going back to the purpose of the castle to begin with -- protecting the lord of the region and his interests. The castle (with the occasional exceptions of some forts) was the home of the lord and his advisors, the center of government, such as it was. The castle is there to protect this. A castle without soldiery would not be much protection at all. How about Barracks, Armory and Stables? Without those, the castle serves little purpose

Did monthly hoards get cancelled due to lack of interest? I admit to being a part of the problem with this.

You are the first to comment. Until recently, I have been in no position to participate. So I was sitting in a wait-and-see posture.
I really thought someone would say something before now...
