Inspired by Vermin King's Sortoportego San Antonio, I wanted to create an Altane for the roof of my modified Merchant Prince house. Not as simple as I expected as the original design did not fit the smaller roof.

My initial idea was to simply enlarge the altane from Sortoportego San Antonio but 4 inch square was deep enough to span the roof front to back and widening to 5.5 inch left very little exposed roof. Fitting an access door proved impossible.

Plan B. I am adapting the extension and side balcony from the Finger and Toe Western Hotel. I will retexture once I have made sure it fits

I reduced the width by a third and joined the walls at the roof. This allowed me to incorporate the plinth into the structure for a much simpler build. The balcony will attach under the door. Textures from Finger and Toe Models Venice High Bridge. Door, slightly enlarged, from Venice Back Alleys. Balcony and geometry from Western Hotel. Roof texture and floor from Sortoportega San Antonio.

I'm thinking it's time for you to become a designer/producer. Really good stuff.

The finished altane on the roof. Given the size of the roof, and the character story, I decided to go for a small viewing platform with a high rail, instead of a large terrace.

From above you can see how small the balcony is.

This gives a better impression of the whole structure.

I decided to relocate the twin chimneys to the back of the roof access. More good luck than planning, the Venice Back Alleys chimneys were the exact height of the structure. I changed the funnels to match the long chimney.

Excellent work, sir. The smaller platform 'looks right'. It looks like it belongs there

I am a passable kit-basher, after you guys have done most of the real work. At the moment, I don't feel I have the skills, time or patience to be a designer. You left out persistence, the ability to carry on when 'skills, time or patience' are lacking. The three main skills operate at different levels all the time. At times they are good. Other times not so much. Persistence is what I find I lack. If my skills are low on a given day, or time or patience, I often do not have the persistence to press on anyway. Your persistence with this is very impressive
