After comparing my first two models with the Terra force figures, I decided they were still not right proportion-wise compared to other Onemonk ranges, and that the level of detail was not right. I did a new figure, paying more attention to Jim's figures, and did it in a pose Icould reuse a lot of the parts from for future models. When he was finished, I modified the first two to fit.. In the case of the engineer, VERY heavily modified I'm going to make this a set of 6, then follow up with some enemies. Revised Space heroes By albinobikers at 2009-07-29 Er.. Yeah, still haven't coloured any. I think I want to get the set finished before I do. And on Jim's advice I'm going to go with 30mm instead of 15. PS- Cheers for the board Jim

These are looking great. The changes you've made are spot on. The new feet look great...(grin) I think the level of detail is just right... any more and it would be lost at gaming length.

I love your artistic style! These are going to be great! I'm glad your making them in 30mm too. One nice thing about 30mm is that you can get 15mm out of them that look good rather then having to enlarge 15mm-30mm. Great work

These are going to be fun with something like GunCrawl or vanilla Savage Worlds.

Perfect crew for my gaming group! Only need a feminine touch, maybe a female ship doctor? ;-)

Yeah I was thinking of a young lady martial artist and maybe the team medic or support weapon being female. They need a robot though too, and of course an alien and a dog/chimp/thingamajig. I think we're going to need a bigger ship.

Add a pointy-eared emotionless science officer who thinks everything is "fascinating", and the crew is complete

She's an awesome figure! How about a lightning bolt, bullet, or crosshair tatoo on her arm?
I love you style and I can't wait to see more! Is there a plucky fighter pilot in the works?

She's got bullet earrings! seriously, I'm thinking of doing little 'bitz' sheets when I relase a pack with things like tattoos and pouches, guns etc on them.. Maybe even some spare helmeted heads. This way people inclined to tinker but not confident making their own art (or just wanting to maintain the same exact style) can get creative. I changed her a bit, mainly tidying up her body proportions and hair. I modified the gun to be gripped a little differently and have a little servo-arm that supports it attached to her belt harness.. Aping that movie everyone loves so much I just DL'd Gimp, and am going to do some test colouring on that tonight in the hotel. I could just use photoshop, but I dig the idea of using only free software for this project, and Gimp is also a much lighter install for my laptop. I could do a pilot I suppose, but in my mind both the guys with pistols could easily be pilots. A lady with a jet pilot style helmet would be pretty cool I guess.

Very nicely done! Almost a classic '50s look, without going Flash Gordon (not that that would be bad...)
I'm always good at suggesting more work for artists... ;D...have you considered applying your work to games like Battlestations! by Gorilla Games? These humans look great, and it would be neat to see your style applied to some of the other alien races. Just a thought.

Battlestations looks really cool. I would have been seriously into it in high school with my gaming friends. (we played a little SFB and a lot of Awful green things in outer space.. in fact most old school sci-fi microgames) but today.. Nah, not without solo rules.
These figs are for me to play guncrawl with, and other to do with as they please. But don't worry, I'll be doing a whole mess of aliens and bad guys after this set!

Here's my first go at colours. Keep in mind that I want to use them for Guncrawl, which is why the palette is not very bright. This is about the level of detail I think I want to see, but will know better once I've done a test print on Monday at the office. By albinobikers

Kudos on these, spacejacker! I like the simple lines and chunky style, and the dynamic poses. These will read well on the table. I'd like to see some more women; maybe a mechanic or a science officer.

I've tweaked and refined these models a bit and changed the colouring style slightly. I think I look at the models at large size too much.. Once shrunk, the initial shading got lost.
This set is now at 5 unique models (I've done a tech girl and a marine type) front and back all done, just need one round of adjustments and 1 more colour pass to finish.. Possibly this week.

WaffleM-
I think quite hard about what would make a useful gaming mini and balance that off against aesthetics and interesting features. Beyond that I suppose I'm influenced by all the movies and various sci-fi medi I've read or played.. But in terms of actual reference materials for ideas or techniques,I don't use any while I'm actually drawing.. It's just what comes out of my head.
For historical stuff I'd definately use reference as a starting point, but for sci fi, the fun is making it all up! And the best thing about cardboard minis is they can be whatever I want, instead of painting and converting.
(The one exception in this lot would be that the LMG weapon was loosely based on an MG42 and an A2 Smartgun.. But so loosely you can't really see it anymore.)
