Here is the beginnings of a troop transport for the Battle Mecha game that dagger and I have been working on: It's going to be two pieces (not counting the base) in 2.5D that slot together to make the miniature. Each piece is going to have two tabbed flats to glue, similar to a 3D model, but these are going to be extra simple due to the small size. More like 2.75D?

Cool... and there's a nice flat spot on top for a turret or weapon mount on future designs...

I'm finally getting back into the swing of things after packing, moving, and unpacking. Sadly, the unpacking continues. Here is a work in progress glimpse of the 2.5D tank for Battle Mecha, complete with medium weapons turret. It may look like a jumbled mess, but it's been too long since I posted any progress. Hopefully I'll have test build photos ready to post early next week.

Looks cool. The coloring fits in nicely with the mechs. is the weapon for the turret going to be swappable for some of the light mech parts? I was thinking that way you could have a variety of tanks. Then again, why have a slow tank when you can have a fast mech?

I've assembled the basic prototype that I've been working on. It's going to need a bit of tweaking such as shifting things around to get tabs to fit and figuring out the balance between two layers and one layer. Two layers seems to work fine with 2.5D slot construction, but the same two layers get too bulky for scoring and folding sections. The pictures below show the prototype with a light and medium mech and some of Jim's TF troops reduced to 15mm edit: Sorry if the sizes of these photos are a bit wacky. Photobucket is acting stange... (probably user error) fixed!

These are looking very nice... That tank looks amazing for only being 2.5d. Unique tread design too... I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.
I'd say it might need to be scaled down a small tad... just enough to fit nicely on a 40mm or 50mm double hex base...

My original design was to have treads too similar to Jim's, so I changed it up a bit and placed the rear set of treads inside the front set. It should fit on the double 40mm base, but I forgot to print them. Looks like I'll have to measure.

That's very impressive... it looks more like 3d than 2.5d. Excellent job. I can't wait to see what you come up with for the Troop Carrier and Armored Scout...

Just some WIP to post on the 2.5D Armored Scout Vehicle. Lots to do, but things are progressing.

I like it... very promising. I especially like the different size wheels, nice touch.

Thanks! The troop carrier will be a similar design, with the back section being taller and replacing one set of wheels with doors for troop access. Hopefully I'll finish this vehicle this weekend...

Here are some pics of the first test build of the Armored Scout Vehicle. I still need to add details onto the back section (that's why I haven't colored the edges).

I like the sleeving idea. That was a clever choice for the vehicles. These vehicles have an interesting look to them.
Nice work!

They're looking really good... I'm impressed. You've managed to get a lot of what I call "architectural interest" for a 2.5d model...

Here is a side view of the troop transport in the design stages. I'm still working on the top, front, and back panels. In case anyone is wondering, the red square measures 15mm on each side. I use this square to give me a quick scale reference so I know the troops will actually fit in the vehicle. In the past I've used actual figures or stick figures, but I've now switched to the simple square because it was quicker than a cut/paste and doesn't eat up any memory.

Vehicles: Round 2 I've just begun some re-designs for the vehicles to better fit the customization rules and to add some 3D styling. So far I'm not really pleased with the look of my first attempt at the new Ultra-Light Class Vehicle, but it is just a first attempt. It needs a ton of stretching, shifting, and re-angling. New turret designs should make a difference too. I'm hoping that my next attempt won't look like a sedan with a big butt...

Looking good for a first draft can't wait to see it textured up. Any plans for any different looking mecha? I should drop past the armourgrid forums more often

I really like your 'slot together vehicles'.
They have a good 3D footprint while being easy to assemble at the same time.

Getting a bit closer. I still need to allow room for side doors and create a new turret, but I think the basics are there. And no, It's not going to be red and blue. I just do solid color fills to make sure I have closed shapes as I'm working on a design.
