First time actually posting here, so I'll start off with a bit of an intro before I get into my question.
I've been a long-time builder of, and even longer time fan of, cardstock modeling and minis. I first got into the hobby back around the time Bile's cardstock tanks and such first hit the web, and found MMiP sometime around then too. Did some tanks, some 2d flats of space marines, and that was about it for a while.
After a few years, I found Worldworks through the CD included with the Rezolution starter box, which promptly re-kindled my interest. I've used cardstock terrain almost exclusively since then, just cause it's so handy! I've also done a fair few smaller kitbashes, and recently started working on designing some of my own stuff as well. Nothing pro yet, of course, but I do have a lot of practice with photo/paint shop, just not on 2d textures yet. Which brings me to my question.
One Monk seems to have become the community for 2d minis. Other places do them too, yes, but no where else seems to have the kind of support from fellow modelers as is showcased here. The monthly forum horde, the collaborations with Ebbles minis, the extensive support on the forums and even incorporating other artists into the normal One Monk lineup of commercial products. While the horde is a good way to showcase any miniatures I'm working on, what about terrain? Are there any places where that can be easily showcased and put up for download, or the like?
Thanks in advance, David C. aka Gecko

Hey! Welcome to the forums.
Doing terrain models requires a lot more skills and tools to do well rather than simple 2D figures. I really encourage you guys to do whatever your inspired to make. This is just a convenient place to share your design process and results of your designs.
I know I eventually will get more into doing vehicles and building eventually. And maybe there will be more interest then.
I'd say, just go ahead and start whatever project you feel energized to make, then I'm sure more people will be inspired themselves to try making more 3D stuff. This has been the spirit of participation I've always had. I figure if I keep plugging way at this stuff, people will want to join in. If you feel the urge, jump in with both feet, it's a fun activity, if time consuming. JIM

Hey Gecko! Welcome! I'm with Jim on this one as well! If you're into making 3D terrain, go for it! I'm sure you'll find plenty of guys (and gals) on here that will wholeheartedly support and use the stuff you create. Me being one of them We've got such a great support system here of very talented artists and modelers. This is the place to create, explore, and expand your talents! Glad to have you and look forward to what you have in store for us! onemonkeybeau

Hi, Gecko. I'd love to see your kitbashes or originals of 3D terrain. If you enjoy kitbashing and would like to share your stuff without the restrictions imposed by World Works Games, you could check out the Fat Dragon Games forum. Tom, like Jim, encourages the making and free sharing of kitbashes. Logically, the kitbashes at the FDG forum use mostly FDG terrain. That could be an issue if you have already purchased a lot of WWG stuff and would prefer to continue working from their excellent designs and textures. But I just thought I would mention it. Here's a link to the kitbash area at the FDG forums, so you can see for yourself: fatdragongames.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fanOn the other hand, One Monk might be the ideal venue for you. I'm not sure if WWG, who (as you no doubt know) are relatively jealous with respect to control of their designs, would attempt to exert their copyright here. Cheers,

Thanks to everyone for the replies and support. That's exactly what I was talking about in my first post ;D @ Steve, regrettably, I am no longer affiliated with Gieco. I can't go into details, but suffice it to say there was much nasty politicking once the cavemen joined the crew. Politics. So easy, a caveman could do it. @ afet, thanks for pointing me in the direction of FDG. I've tried checking them out, but for some reason their web page won't load when I try to go to it. Definitly something I'll check out though. While I haven't posted a lot of my WWG kitbashes, I did post some of a Halo-themed rework of their Atlantis set. I stopped working on it for the most part because it was 80+% my texture work, and there wasn't much interest. Figured it would be easier to re-visit it later as a project that was wholly mine. here's the link for it: wormholegamer.com/photos/index.php?cat=10190I've also posted a few of my quickie projects on Devart. Here's a Gears of War flat I started on (and quickly learned a lot about 2d models from when printed, like line width) thegreyknight.deviantart.com/art/Marcus-Fenix-Cardstock-test-134126132Here's a quick-and-dirty (20 minute or so) kitbash I did of some GW barricades. thegreyknight.deviantart.com/art/40K-Aegis-Defense-Line-132296002And one of my personal faves, a 2.5d steampunk tachicoma! (other views of it are up too) thegreyknight.deviantart.com/art/Steampunk-Tachicoma-v-0-1-side-72522626For the projects I've been doing recently, I finally decided that a photobucket was essential. I have some pictures of a landing pad (which GW players might find interest in ;D), as well as some action shots. A few of them also have a test build of my Gears flat in them, along with a "Sergeant Major" for comparison. s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy359/the_gecko_photo/?action=view¤t=battle1.jpg&newest=1

Very nice work! I'm impressed!
If you would like to blog about your designs here, I'd be happy to set you up with your own board. I for one, would like to see you do more of the Halo and Gears inspired terrain and figs.
Your more than welcome to use any of my sketches for the designs in the members exclusive board. This will help you get the chunky style of my figures, if that's your goal. JIM

Very cool! Would love to see more finished Gears minis. Actually wrote a skirmish system based on its heavy use of cover. Could not get anyone to play it so its just sitting on my hard drive...

Wow Gecko!
That is some nice stufff!
I think my favorite is the 2.5D steampunk walker (I seem to be a 2.5D junkie...)
So glad you're here and creating with us!
Looking forward to seeing much more greatness from you!

@ Jim I would love to have a board to blog on about my projects! I won't be doing as much with 2d flats to start with in the beginning, as I have never used a vector based program (though I am downloading inkscape as I type ) and after trying to whip up the gears guy, I realized just how nice it would be to have pre-made parts I can mix, match and turn to make new poses. @ kane Is there any way I could get my hands on a copy of your skirmish rules to try them out? I've been a hardcore wargamer for years, even playtester for a few games, and I'd love to give your system a whirl if you're willing to share it. and @ onemonkeybeau I'm glad you liked the walker so much! even though it's several years old, I'm still planning on revisiting it soon and finally texturing it. If you're a sucker for 2.5d, you'll prolly like one of my next projects I have sketched out too... bwahahaha!

Anyone who can say "bwahahaha!" on the forum, and mean it, is okay in my book!
Oh... and I really like your stuff, too. Especially the barricades and the 2.5-D steam punk walker. I'm looking forward to seeing how you texture it.
Have fun! Steve
