Fairy princesses, good females, fairy or Elven queens. Actually these are requests from my daughter who loves the Golems set but doesn't think there are enough 'girl' miniatures. I suppose I could put dresses on the brigands but it's not the same thing. I am modding the Fey Princess by reducing the size of the blue Hybrid wings so I can stick them on her back for a 2.5D mini.

Now there's an idea!
A set of 2.5D fairies... my daughter would LOVE those!
Be sure and post a pic when you're done, Eric!

I got a request. I have been trying over and over the past month or 2 to draw a 2D dragon. I am never happy with the final designs. I have tried everything from tracing art, to stockpiling a bunch of "how to draw dragons" books (some are ok, but drawing for a mini and drawing for a piece of art are 2 totally different styles), to even attempting to trace over photos of WoTC's dnd minis dragons. I have even attempted to adapt the 2.5d dragon into 2D but the proportions just dont seem to come up right. It's getting to the point that I just want to take a pic of a dragon that's flat footed and reflect the image.
So my request is a 2d dragon or 2 (or just even a pile of parts) of big size. That way if a smaller dragon is needed instead, it can just be scaled down without quality loss.

You can easily find great photos of butterfly wings on the net, and create some add-on versions.
You can also get some fairy figures with the FairyMeat game, although I forget how twisted they look.
I'll just add it to the list, I also have little ponies and baby unicorns and that sort of stuff lined up for little ladies. A fantasy ranch. JIM

I requested a set of 2.5d fairies a long time ago for use with Fairy Meat. The fairies themselves could be a simple side-view, then the wings would slot onto their back. Of course Fairy Meat fairies are a bit more combative looking and not to cutesy...

Yeah but moon fairies Rock man!!!!!!!!!!!! (literally) and they wear spangly coloured jumpsuits!! Just think pint size glam rockers!!
Of course if we're requesting figures suitable for fairy meat then don't forget gnomes, clockwork fairies, imps, crickens, leperchauns (yep that's spelt right) and gremlins (to name but a few!!) I can't find minis for these anywhere ;D

I like Jim's fantasy ranch idea. At Archive Miniatures, Neville sculpted "Princess Jasmine" as a portrait figure of his daughter. She had a nice dress, wearing a medieval pointy-cone hat with it's piece of veil floating from the point, and carrying a wand with a star on its business end. Neville also did a mounted valkyrie, or something like that, demurely seat side-saddle.
They were two of the regular moving figures, always staying in production. We mounted the valkyries on unicorns. It was always fun in a minis game to watch the unicorn girlies stomp a bunch of overly-burly chaos riders from hell into the ground!
Have fun! Steve

Took off the 'growths', created an overlay layer and painted white over the dress, took off the gnarly staff top bit, resized the purple+green wings to 70%. Daughter liked it but said she didn't want a necklace...gotta do another one....(sigh)

Eric! Any chance you'll be submitting this for us to build? Please. onemonkeybeau Sure! I'm certain Magpiestear's daughter could find some uses for these. Almost done with the next version, purple dress this time, and no necklace; when the fairy princess is teaching the clay golem how to fish she needs to be appropriately accessorized.

My daughter is at an age where it is no longer a topic for conversation. My granddaughter by her is just turning seventeen. You guys bring up such wonderful memories, writing about your girls. Enjoy them while you can. They grow up too fast.
Have fun! Steve

I was digesting what MelEbbles said in another thread and decided to desaturate the base figure and paint over the parts with different layers set to different blend modes. That's a fun and easy technique.

Hmmmm... little darker skin... whiter hair, more of a scowl on the face... maybe a more arcane staff...
That would make a pretty fine female Drow caster! ;D

Pink wings, pink fairy almost done, gotta get the hue right on the dress, which gives me a page of four fairies and four wings. It just occurred to me, but I've really hi-jacked this thread... Could some kind moderator please split this off and put it in the modding section of the forum where it really belongs. Call it something like 'Princess Party'....sorry, I got carried away. Drow sorceress? Probably...

You know you could print up the wings on film as well as cardstock. With the cardstock trim out the actual wings membrane leaving the structure. Then with the film version overlay the cardstock: Of course you would edge the cardstock unlike me on my test run. I have to say that this would be fun just to do (make/build) some cutesy fairies - I always went hunting little folk on our friends farm - five girls will do that to a young chap under his first decade. Sorry, there is no way to move part of a topic. I can't even copy the topic, the only thing I can do is move it, and start a new thread with the old topic, which is what I will try... JIM

Nice... but is she really throwing out the Motley Crue rock sign with her left hand? No, for two reasons. a) You don't really think Motley Crüe invented the horns, do you? b) The thumb's out. I don't know if it's the same with the hand pointing down like that, but I believe that's actually the sign for 'love' in American Sign Language.

True... but the sign IS upside down... and "upside down love" in Swahili, as we all know, said backwards is "Prince of Darkness".
Coincidence?
I think not.

I was digesting what MelEbbles said in another thread and decided to desaturate the base figure and paint over the parts with different layers set to different blend modes. That's a fun and easy technique. Yes that is a great way to do things...and easy to test and undo ideas. I use a lot of layer work, layer styles and the paintbrush(using various blend modes & brushes) and of course the ubiquitous Burn/Dodge tool. The vector tool and magnetic lasso see lots of use and I often use them much the same way an airbrush artist uses frisket for masks. Another useful tool is the Eraser(but switch it to the brush) and change the modes. Very useful for blending different parts, subdoing details, etc). ~F

Awesome recolors, Eric!
That Drwo Archer looks a tad bit too dark... it might look better printed though.

I've got Photoshop burn-out and I've switched my energies back to building things. I'll come back to the archer though as he feels pretty rough at the moment and yeah, I think he'd print out toooo dark. I forgot to give him eyes too. I'm pretty happy with the sorceress, but I should give her a different staff, something metallic with a crystal in the end so I can play with glow effects. I'll start a new thread for the "Drow adventurers mods" soon.
