While practicing a few different critters I drew up the below which I quiet liked the look of not sure it was what Onemonk had in mind for animals but anyways figured I'd finish him up for the hoard as well (rabid acid spitting tiger snail?). Started with this sketch/drawing, I used a Giant African snail as inspiration: Then moved onto colouring and outlining the front view in inkscape: I'm going to try and throw some texture across the shell in Gimp, once I finish the back view in Inkscape. Put the black border around him to see how he looked . I'll size the final at about 15mm tall. Feedback on ways I can improve in the future more than welcome

And all that work has payed off. This is a fine looking snail. I'd pit it against any thing as a slow but able foe.
Good work! ;D

I'd make the lines running along its tummy thicker, for better print. The texture on the shell sounds like a good idea, my first reaction was where did those lines go from the shell But if that is going to be fixed, it is going to be a nice snail.

Think he's all done . Ended up sizing him to 25mm to the top of his eye (just shorter than a human). The snail turned out okay when I test printed him, thanks for the tips on the line thickness anitangel Edit: This version is only 150dpi, the 300DPI version is below

Great job!
I'm glad you upped his size... I was going to suggest that but you beat me to it
This guy will fit perfectly in my cave board.
Awesome!

Thanks for all the comments . Trying a pig next, simple side on view but I'm trying to segment the pig the way Onemonk tends to segment his miniatures/drawing. I'll probably drop a bit of a skin texture over him to help lift him up a bit. If I've got time I'll try a 3/4 head view as an addition. Thoughts and comments welcome. edit: I'm also going to try sticking some mud to him as well

Looking good. I think you have found the trick to it. The segmented pieces allows you to make him modular and repose-able, too. Not to mention swap out parts like the head. That should work out very well to your advantage in the future.

Looks fine, and will print up well. I would thicken up the tail though, just a little. JIM

I did a couple of test prints on pig and boy were his legs skinny looking especially when compared to other mini's. So I thickened them up a bit (about 150% thicker), I guess this is the real life vs Mini factor. Looks fairly chubby in the below but looks 10x better printed. Also thickened the tail out thanks Jim, that would have been a pain to cut As far as a learning experience the Pig has been a great first legged mini to do...still working on that alternate head Comments and thoughts welcome

Pig finished up Skin texture just looked either to coarse or didn't appear on print. similar with the mud...so plain pink pig he is I need to go back now and correct the snail, just realized I'd generated him at 150dpi not 300dpi, I should have checked the settings...

madkingchristopher - not sure how snail cavalry will go might be a bit slow? ;D Snail done at 300dpi...had to redo the shell texture, I cleaned up the blacklines to coloured, not sure how I missed those last time. Height has been increased to 30mm to the top of his eye stalk, unfortunately needed a bigger base, 40mm was just a little small This one will go in the hoard, but I'll leave the 150dpi one in this thread, in case anyone wants it for something.

Snail cavalry would be ideal for a Halfling troop, it'd give them ample time for a snack on the way to the battlefield. And second-breakfast, and elevensies, and lunch, and after-lunch...
