Maybe devise a steam stack of some sort.

Yeah, in the rear section, why not add some sort of steam engine gubbins and maybe some brass plates on the front portions for armour.

Steampunk for me also means ornate. So why not shape those metal plates under the big screws like a scroll, running along the lines of the vehicle where the edges meet?
Just My two cents,

Looking it over again you might want to give more life to the metal in some areas - change it from all Zinc oxide to a mix of bass; maybe some of the details like the hinges or sections within a larger metal area.
As for the scroll working and carved scripting on the metal, I do agree with Anita but feel that the tank is more run of the mill (no pun) and might lack those refinements. Mind you if it was an airship or a flyer it would have more call for such. Then again I am talking out the seat of my pants about this - it could get away with the ornate frufru of that era but them it comes down to your skill rather than a simple recolour.

Scruff, if you do not want to put too much into it, you could find some ornate designs from the web, cut out a section in the right shape, desaturate it, and then plop it on top of your metal as an overlay or darkened layer. Just an idea.
