Next set that I want to do, after I finish something for the HOARD, is a set of desert monsters so I can knock a few things from my futures list. Here are my thoughts so far: - Mummy*
- Tomb Guardian and/or Lord (beefed up mummies)
- Man-Scorpion*
- Scarab Swarm
- Giant Scarab rider (Mummy or lizardman?)
- Anubus
- Genie
- Djinn
- Mameluke
- Large Cat (Jaguar, lynx, etc)
- Naga?
- Cat-man
- Mummified Centaur*
- Giant Scorpion*
I know I don't have room for all of these, so some will be cut. If you have any suggestions or favorites, cast your vote and I'll try and make sure those get into the set. I only have the ones with the asterisk set in stone at the moment.

The man-scorpion and giant scorpion are a must. I also think the mummy centaur sounds interesting. JIM

Ooh... I don't think I've ever seen a centaur mummy... excellent idea!
As for the Scarab rider... I'd have to say go with a mummy there too...

Thanks guys, I'll add a Giant Scorpion to the list. It will be a challenge to make it different form the Man-Scorpion.
I'll pin down the Centaur, too.

OK, After much searching and sketching, I realized that I have two schools of desert characters: Arabian and Egyptian. I now have enough ideas to probably fill out two decent sets. Here is the list as stands: - Mummy
- Mummy priest
- Mummy lord
- Mummy Guard
- Mummy Guard Scarab rider
- Mummy centaur
- Clockwork Anubis
- Man-Scorpion
- Sphinx
- Priestess
- Hawk-man
- 5 Egyptians from High rank to low
- Scarab Swarm
- Vulture
- Naga (needs redesigning)
- Desert worm
- 2 Arabian desert bandits
- 5 Arabians from Sheik to servant
- Giant scorpion
- Giant Cobra
- Animate sand
- 3Genies (I'll pare these down to 1)
- Djinn
- Efreet

Very nice list, and good idea making two different sets. I look forward to seeing the Arabian stuff! JIM

And on that note, I started with the opposite set. Sorry, Jim. This was not intentional, I just went with the first thing in my sketches pile. This is my regular mummy. I've been kicking around the idea of maybe making a more emaciated skeletal mummy more like a product you would expect of 1000 years of age rather than the B-movie version you see here.

Very nice, just the right colors for a dry mummy. JIM

Hey Jabbro!
The colors are awesome!
I'd like to see a more skeletal version (like the one you mentioned in the post above) wrapped in cloth. I'd also like to see what it would look like without all the miscellaneous bandages flying about.
Great start for one of my favorite genres!

I'd also like to see what it would look like without all the miscellaneous bandages flying about. I agree. All those bandages flying about will make the trimming exceeding tedious.

Cool. I'll make one with less trimmings in a more skeletal look. He'll end up matching my centaur. ;D

Sorry about the slow progress. Things at work have stacked up. August is the busiest time usually, but on top of the normal madness I have half a dozen releases I have to QC, 400 pages of documentation to slog through, a presentation to give, and a friend's wedding to attend. I'm not giving up, mind you, I am just explaining why I have so little free time and my usual updates are lagging. Here is the Mummy Priest.

Looks great as usual, coloring is spot on.
Don't worry yourself too much about your progress, I know I have times of great progress and others where I struggle to get anything done. I'm sure once real world things calm down you will be posting like crazy. JIM

I'm not dead, yet! ...And here's the proof. I have been swapping this from computer to computer for almost a week, now. Thank goodness for flash drives. He's meant to be an ancient Egyptian automaton, awoken for vengeance and death dealing. Glad to finally have something done. I think I might do something different about the glowing parts. I am not totally sure what, but I'll think of something.

That's a very unique idea for a figure... I like it. I imagine they're the type of character that attacks in hordes?

I think several would make a good unit for skirmish games, or they could be used as mid level boss characters for a dungeon crawl scenario.
I know I'll be using them as the latter. You steal from the tomb, you pay the price. ;D

I can see possibilities for using this guy in many roleplaying settings...
I'm a little worried about its construction, the members are a little on the thin side. Maybe being a bit more generous with the black border the mini can handle being manipulated well enough for gaming purposes.
On the other hand it has a very distinctive silhouette.

I like the figure, but it looks like it would be very delicate.

I was just going to say it looks a little on the thin side. Depending on how large it is, this may not be and issue. JIM

I let you guys know how he test builds. He is a bit larger than most, I am putting him on a 25mm base instead of the regular 20mm I put most figures on. If he turns out too thin, I'll add armor or something.

Maybe give him a magical glow or some electric noise to give him a wider backing and fill in between the thin areas? That way you can enhance the border without having to add lots of black

Thanks, Jose, for the advice. I'll see how he does on the initial printout. I still have others that I am working on. Once I get them all done, I'll print them and then go back and tweak as needed. Here is the unmounted Mummy Guard.

Hey gang. I just got back from vacation, well it was Thursday night but close enough. Work is still taking a good portion of my time. Luckily I took my sketch book with me and was able to get some stuff worked on while I was away. Here is the Mummy King. I have a scarab rider, and then that should be the end of the dead Egyptians. Next I get to do a bunch of live ones.

I love these, we've had to add an extra terrain type to our mighty empires campaign to prepare for their arrival Cue mad dash to the desert. The clockwork anubi would make a brilliant trap for RPG.... or an arcane grenade, wind it up, throw it and look who pops out.
