Anyone have any suggestions for terrain mats. I have a grass mat I use for most gaming, but I want to get others, like a naval mat, space mat, and others for gaming. Here is some links to places I have found, anything I'm missing??? www.zuzzy.com/index.htmlwww.hotzmats.com/terrainmat.com/index.htmlwww.theterrainguy.com/index.htmlThe more I think about printing out ground tiles, the less I like the idea of covering a 4x8 foot area with solid printed tiles $$$$. Plus the paper stuff doesn't have the durability I want, I am kind of rough on my stuff. JIM

Print the terrain tiles on full sheet labels, then adhere to foam board. If you can keep both the dog and coffee spills from them, they'll last for years. I have one in my standard mottled, urban blight, refinery ground texture and a couple of WorldWorks and Skeleton Key. Durable, cheap.
BTW, I _strongly_ recommend Ed Bourelle's Skeleton Key products over at RPGNOW.

It's not a traditional terrain mat, but I'm partial to Zilla Reptile terrarium liner. It comes it brown and green and is more durable than felt. Sorry for the big pictures- they're direct from www.zilla-rules.com

Depending on what you are doing, I highly recommend the spray stencils from a little company I know of called Litko (Gratuitous Plug) We went to a fabric store and got different shaded fabrics and used the stencils. It worked out great!

I think Floyski found what I was looking for. www.zuzzy.com/Scratch that, The cobblestone mat was due to be released last year, I think they have lost steam/interest in doing more stuff at the moment. JIM

Variety: lots of choices (his outdoor sets can be used for any time period or genre). They usually fit together well enough to make a mat. Artistry: the AT-43 style set has dramatically improved, but, truthfully, I think the overall style is a pretty good match for Jim's style. I should add, that for sci-fi, ship-type "hulk-crawls," Blackwyrm's sets are pretty good (but that's a thread drift away from terrain mats).

Well, I have 2 tables and both are grass oriented. One is for skirmish games, and I used Fat Dragon tiles from forest set which I have mounted on 2 4x2" styrofaom boards connected with wooden connectors. My WHB table consists of green blanket mounted on 3 above mentioned boards. Blanket looks very much like grass and gives perfect impression, and I have payed 3 EU for it, s I am more than satisfied I will post some links to photos tomorrow.

Kane those Zilla Terrarium Liners are neat. I had not even thought of something like that. Are they soft and spongy? Or are they more like those green scouring pads for cleaning metal pots and such? As an aside, would anyone like to buy Medieval Set 1/2 way down this page? ~F I like the sea monster. ;D

I like the sea monster. ;D It is very much in the flavor of the creatures often drawn into explorers maps of antiquity. I'd love to see more of this type of thing. Especially for a Warf and docks area. ~F

My solution is a large piece of 1/4'' thick glass. While it doesn't offset the cost of printing it does solve durability problems. Plus you can draw/write on it with dry erase markers.
I still use textured terrain mats for war games (40k, Warmachine, etc), I use the glass/card stock combo for RPGs and skirmish games, especially if they use a grid. For the run of the mill game night I just toss the Chessex hex mat under it use the dry erase markers to sketch out encounter areas.
Perhaps slightly off topic but--I like it so much I built a tabletop that allows the glass to pivot up and hold in place while I rearrange the mats/tiles underneath. It works really great, though admittedly I went through quit a bit of wood and metalworking effort to construct it. It gives me a 30" x 46" playing surface that can be changed relatively easily.

I didn't want to clutter up this thread so I started a new one about my glass gaming top on the forum onemonk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=stats&action=display&thread=2077

Not Kane, just Waffle. The terrarium liners are like the green scouring pads, only a little thinner (1/8" to 3/16") and softer. I cut slits into them to stand up the trees on the Armor Grid: Mech Attack cover and the material was rigid enough to hold them up. The roll I picked up was about 18 inches by 72 inches so I cut it into two pieces to make a three foot square playing surface.
